We have been to Universal before, but have never stayed onsite. We would love to go next year for a couple of nights and have a park to park pass. I cannot justify it. They quoted us $1700 for four nights and a 3 day ticket. That is not including food or park to park. How does everyone do it???? Is this a good price or am I overreacting? Do they have discounts like Disney? Thanks.

When are you going? That can make a difference. There are several options available to you. Buying a package generally isn't the cheapest option.

We are flexible with our dates, we just want it to be warm enough to swim. We are looking at March, but it may be a better deal to go the first or second week in February. We have traveled to Fl in January, and its been a bit chilly. How is it around Valentines day?

What about the meal deal? Is that a good value? Do we need to add this on? FYI, we always do the disney dining plan, because we like to have it paid for ahead of time, and we always come out ahead when we add up the cost.

Here's what I would do if I were you. If you are planning on staying 4 nights in February, purchase 1 preferred annual pass at a rate of $229. With this annual pass, the Royal Pacific hotel is $139 for the first three weeks of February. Purchase the other passes at a 15% discount at the gates when you get your annual pass.

The meal deal is only for counter service. It is not worth it because the best restaurants are not counter service.

So your price now is around $139 x 4 + $229 + $140 x 3 = approx 1235 including 4 nights, 1 annual pass, 3 hopper passes

I'm not sure how old your family members are so I just rounded your ticket prices to $140 each.

This is without tax.

If you are a member of AAA they offer discounts for the rooms but not sure if there are blackout dates in March at all. Don't forget March is Spring Break month for colleges so the prices are usually higher at that time and April is high next year since Easter is late in the month and schools are off at different time. Agree with pp, it is cheaper to do a room only reservation and buy your tickets separately. We usually buy our tickets from AAA since they offer a discount on them. The meal deal isn't a good deal at Universal since it is only fast food. The prices at the restaurants aren't that bad - also, if you are a AAA member you would get a 10% discount at the restaurant in the parks and City Walk (except Emerils) plus the snack carts and stores.

We had a package deal for our early-mid December trip, and it was expensive. Found a better deal on tickets (maple leaf tickets), found a deal on the room (something like 'stay more play more'?), and it was quite a bit under the package deal, for almost the same things. I highly recommend shopping around. The package was easily canceled, and they had my deposit back on my card inside of a week (that's when I *noticed* it).

That sounds like that could work. It would only be for my husband and I, so we would only need 2 tickets. That is why I thought $1700 was a little expensive for just 2 people. If we had kids, it would have been even more!

Thanks for letting me know about the AP's. This might be a good option for my husband and I, because we may go back a couple of days in September as well. I see there are 2 types of AP's and the 2nd one is not too much more expensive and it looks like you get a lot of fluff with it. Is it worth the value? Also, is Hard Rock or Portofino worth the extra cash to stay there vs Royal Pacific? Sorry for all the questions, its just nice to get everyones opinions around value, benefits, etc.

Just giving this a gentle bump, so someone who knows can answer.

The more expensive AP isn't worth it in my opinion. For two people, I think Royal Pacific is just fine.

Everyone seems to prefer different hotels. You'll just have to visit them all and make your own decision!

February and March here are COLD...too cold to swim, unless you are from Alaska, maybe! It's great for walking around the parks, since you avoid all the humidity in the summer months, though. That's peak season, too, and much more expensive. Check around for rates...that seems real high. All the hotels are nice, but we LOVE, LOVE Hard Rock. :wizard:

Where do you find the AP for $229? I am only seeing $289???

I would have to say March is too cold for us. Been there in February and March several times, and we always have to plan our pool days (or day) according to the weather. We sometimes only get 1 good day at the pools.

Mixed it up a bit and went down late June two years ago, and it was HOT. Even still, we all preferred June to March.

We have a family of 4 and we have the one AP pass that I renew each year. Currently the renewel rate is less expensive then purchasing a multi day ticket usually. Since when we go we usually stay 4 or more nights so the AP pass has saved us lots on the room rates, and when I remember to use it you also get discounts on food and merchandise that helps out too.

Weather wise, you just never know. We went one year in early Feb to visit my parents and then I took DD to Disney for a few days and it was warm enough that we went over to the water park :) Heck on that day the rental car's AC went out and we about had a heat stroke :)

When we go we prefer RPH just becuase with 2 little kids they love the kiddie area of the pool with all the water activities. Now we are thinking of trying out PBH next time to get a little more room and to have a different atmosphere.
