17 year old turning 18 on cruise

There's the possibility that my son will be turning 18 in the midst of our cruise in '07. Would he still be able to participate in the teen club while he's still 17 and then be able to go to the adult areas like Palo once he turns 18? Has anyone ever had this happen?

I'm not sure about Palo but I know from a conversation we had with Sheila who is in charge of all children's programming that for the Stack, even though it says 13-17, as long as they are still in high school, they can participate. I would imagine if you have i.d. that your child is 18, they can also go to Palo.

Actually one of the reasons we're going on this trip is due to my son's high school graduation. It's ok if he can't go to the clubs, he wants to be with adults anyway. Ah, so quick to grow up.

next year my family and i are going on a cruise i will be 18, i will probably hang with the adult party. My last cruise, i remember them saying to a kid ( i think he was 18), if a person's birthday was in a month of the sailing date he can jion the club. i don't know if it was true now, but i don't think your son would have a problem. It not like a thirty year old asking to join the teen club.

We took our twins on DCL and they turned 3 the second day of the cruise. DCL told me that the age of the person the day the cruise sets sail is the age they consider the person for the whole cruise. In our case we only had to pay infant rates for our kids.

For payment purposes, the age you are when you board is the age you are on the cruise. That's how an "almost 3" cruises for the taxes only. However, for programming purposes, if you are within 30 days of your birthday, you can move up to the next age group. You can also choose to stay in the age group that you are when you board. However, you cannot bounce back and forth between groups.

For Stack purposes, an 18 year old who is still in high school can continue to participate in the teen programming. The same person will be admitted to the adult areas on or after the 18th birthday. Since the adult programming and venues don't require registration, this person can participate in both. There is a way to make reservations for a person who is turning the required age during the cruise (for example, someone turning 18 could make spa or Palo ressies, someome turning 13 can book the Wild Side). However, this won't work thru the automated system as they list the age at boarding. You must call DCL and the Cast Member can do it manually for you. In our case, she had to call a supervisor and figure out how to get it done. She was most apologetic while on the phone, saying things like, "I know I can do this, but please bear with me while I remember how."

Just returned, recently, from our third cruise. My daughter actually turned 18 this past January but graduated from high school two weeks before the cruise. She took her best friend (17 years old) as a gift for the last several birthdays and christmas'. Checked in with the stack on the first day and was told she could be an "honorary" stack member. The only hesitation was when I tried to sign her up for the teen catamaran excursion because the tour desk said the "tour company" might not want her along Anyhow, they check with the stack CM, who had already spoken to my daughter about going, and happily took our money.

Since my daughter chose to be a "teen" on the cruise I did not include her in any "adult" activities (Palo in particular) and she had no interest in the adult entertainment because they were already at the stack hanging out. The one thing that she did get to do was have her hair done for formal night.

Personally, I was happy to have her be a "teen" one last time because when we get to cruise again she will be much older - college starts in about a month! BTW - my step-son turned 18 on the last day of the cruise, we didn't give him any options at all!

Well, some things have changed with our travel party. One of my son's friends who will be 20 when we go will be coming along. Which means that my son will want to hang with home most of the time.
