 Getting there, down to 17 days now!

This will be our first family trip there! We've always been telling the kids that one year we'll go. They're thinking we'll be going in 4 or 5 years.

Here's how I have it planned out:
We always go camping at Darien Lake for Labour Day weekend, Sept long weekend in Canada. Anyway, as far as the kids know we're still going. We're telling them we're not taking the trailer but we'll stay in one of their RV's. On our way there we're going to tell them that we're doing back to school shopping and staying at a hotel in Buffalo (directly across from the airport, with long term parking ;) ) Our flight leaves the next morning at 6:00am.
We'll be waking them up really early, around 3:00am I guess and say our plans have changed - we're not going to Darien Lake for the weekend, but have to get over to the airport - we're going to Walt Disney World for a week!
Can't wait to see the look on their faces, it's going to be priceless!

We too leave in 17 days. So I am now not only excited about our anniversary trip, but about the surprise for your kids. I hope someone can take a picture of their faces when you tell them the news! Have a magical time. pixiedust:

We did the same sort of thing with our kids last year. We told them we were going to Mexico. So we packed and got all our stuff together and were on our way. The whole time we were at the airport they thought we were going to Mexico. Even on the flight. They never picked up on anything. They were just excited to be on an airplane (1st time). We wanted them to figure it out on there own. We get to the airport in Orlando and they still don't figure it out. At this point my DH and I are on the floor laughing:rotfl2: because they think we are in Mexico. Even with all the Disney signs all around us and other people talking.

Well, we line up for the Magical Express:wizard: and at this point they are starting to get a clue...it's about time...finally on the bus my DS looking outside at the all the Disney signs and hotels we are passing and says to us, "Are we in Disney World" and me and my DH start to laugh and say "Yes! Surprise!"pixiedust: Our DD who was 6 at the time started crying she was so happy and then she said, "Does that mean we are not in Mexico after all?" That night at Wishes she turned to me and said, "Mommy, wishes really do come true" and then it was my try to cry. We had a blast.

Good luck with your planning and good luck with the surprise. One tip, when we went over the Peace Bridge and they asked us where we were going I took our confirmation sheet from Disney and circled the date and where we were staying and wrote on it, "It is a surprise, Please" on it and he spoke the whole time in code so the kids never figured it out. He was great.

Our Disney trip next month is a big surprise too! :rotfl: Our kids, DD7 & DS4 have been asking us to take them to Disney but we've told them that it is really expensive to go there and so we will have to save up for it for a couple of years. Hee Hee! We have an early morning flight (their 1st as well) so I have just casually mentioned to them in recent wks that maybe Daddy will take a day off work soon and we can book a hotel in Toronto and stay overnight and then go to the Toronto Zoo the next day. Sure hope that when that hotel wake-up call comes they're groggy enough to not really "get" where we're actually heading! I have surprised myself by being able to keep it a secret from them this long! My closet is housing hidden treasures for the trip.....Mickey T'shirts, back packs, lanyards and pins....:rolleyes1

I'm going to be holding the video camera while my wife tells them. Maybe I'll post it on youtube too, lol

OatsZoo - what a precious DD you have, that was priceless.

I was thinking of just telling them at the border that we were going to Darien Lake. Once we're across they don't really know where we are, do you think it matters? That's a good idea of just handing a copy of the reservations and putting "Secret" on it, thanks.

This will be the first time on a plane for them too. 3 DS 12,9 and 6. Actually the 9 year old turns 10 the day we leave.

I love surprises!!! In January my DH thinks we are only going to Disney - When we get there I'm going to tell him not to get too comfortable in the hotel cause we are leaving on a DCL in a few days!!

Are you goin to write a TR?

I really don't think it matters at the border but if you want to be on the safe side you might want to tell them. Good luck and enjoy your trip. Happy surprising!!!
