I rent out points and I've never asked for a 50% deposit. In fact only once did I ask for a $50 deposit to book the room, then I called to switch the guests names. It's much easier to get all their information first, book the reservation in the guests name, send the reservation number so the guest can add to the MDE to confirm the reservation. Only then do I ask for payment.
