Hi all,
I pulled a few ornaments off the tree at our church and one of the kids I'm buying gifts for this year is a 16 year old girl who has makeup and hair accessories on her wish list.

This sounds easy enough to accommodate, but for those of you with girls this age, is there a brand or style of makeup/hair accessory that's popular with the girls? My daughter is 8, so she's just in to lip smackers and peace signs.

TIA for any suggestions!

Hair accessories? Blow dryer, straightener, girls love simple clips, bobby pins, the good pony tails made by goody I believe. My girls, have been into the simple headbands, from the dollar store, they put their hair up in a pony tail, and add the headband.
Make up, my girls are pretty simple, basically foundation, cover up, and eyeliner, not big into eyeshadow.
What about some nice face cleaning stuff? They like the Neutrogena, pink grapefruit face wash. You could always get some make up remover, and make up remover pads/cottonballs. Tweezers, eyelash curler, mascara. Hope this helps.

Thank you Tami! I didn't think about a hot iron or face cleaning products. It would be nice to have a combination of fun stuff and practical stuff in the gift.

Thanks!

I am not sure about a 16 year old but I love my spin pins!! Makes doing a messy bun so easy and holds it in so well!

What is you limit or what did u want to spend. Ulta has some great gift sets at good prices. And they always have $5 off coupons. Plus they have nice hair stuff too.

We are supposed to keep spending within $20-$30 so there's no competition among siblings.

i would also recommend going to ulta as well! they have coupons, and specials all the time for the holiday season. they usually put together baskets too that incoprate makeup and hair products. at 16 i loved ulta (still do) and as far as brands go my friends and i were into to urban decay and mac. (mac is sold at macys, not ulta sadly). urban decay can be pricey but with their sales its not bad, and its really good makeup.

My DD is 18 but all the girls at High school are very into the eyes. Lots of eyeliner and shadow. For her Easter basket I got her a few eyeliner pencils at Walgreen so not expensive that were different colors with sparkle like, black, purple, dark blue, and she loved them.

She also uses the Rimmel line of eye shadows and they are at
Target and Walmart. Lots of nice combinations of colors and not pricey. She also uses their powder instead of a foundation.

You could throw in an eyelash curler and decent tweezers

Things like blush would be hard to buy since you don't know her coloring but you can't go wrong with eye stuff for a teen girl. same with hair if you don't know if long, short, straight etc. but you could get sprays.

I would do an eye theme and put it into a plastic basket from the dollar store that she could keep the stuff in and get mascara, couple eyeliners, a few shadows, tweezers, curler, etc.

My DD is 16 & loves to play around w/eye shadow & eyeliner colors. She mainly wears eye makeup & sometimes some lip gloss. She has one of the Ulta kits w/all the colors. Headbands with flowers, jewels or other decorations are popular around here. Happy shopping!

I have a 17 y/o daughter and I totally agree with this. :) My DD loves to do up her eyes. Every time we go to Target, we hit the clearance end caps in the beauty dept. to see what kinds of eyeshadows they have in clearance...we rarely pay full price unless we are looking for a specific color to match a specific dress (i.e. homecoming). My DD told me to say that Maybelline Great Lash mascara is the best, lol...Pink with a green top. And she also sugggested an inexpensive body wash and/or body spray. You can get really good deals at Bath and Body Works ($3-5 a bottle when you hit a sale). DD also really likes simple hair pins (look like bobby pins) that have a little "bling" on them.
Good luck!

My DD is 15-1/2. She likes Ulta. She either uses her flat iron or 3 barrel curling iron every day. Ulta has coupons all the time in the paper.

Ulta usually has a sale before Christmas where you pick, I think, 4 items for $10 and they give you a little basket with a plush santa, or penguin, etc. on it.

She also likes bath and body works stuff (shower gel, lotion, etc.) Except, it might be hard to find a scent they like?? You could maybe go with one of the Christmas scents - like vanilla bean or whatever its called this year.

L'Oreal stuff is on clearance right now at CVS. You could use that with some coupons from the paper to make a nice makeup kit.

Starting Thursday, CVS has a hair dryer for $9.99 and you get a free curling iron.

The new Oprah magazine has a set of 100 eye shadows for $10.

My almost 16 year old is so not into hair and makeup so I can't help you there but she does love perfume. She also loves Vanilla Bean Noel from Bath and Body Works and the Pink stuff they sell.

It's so nice that you're doing this:thumbsup2

Thank you all so much for your suggestions! I went to Ulta and bought a gift set that was heavy on the eye makeup, a nail polish, and some smaller items from the 5 for $5 bin. I hope she loves it!
