16 Year Old DVC Birthday Celebration Advice

I am taking son on a special father/son trip to celebrate his 16th birthday. I am wrestling with what resort to stay at. So far I booked OKW but I am wait listing for concierge AKL or BCV. Do you think the concierge is worth it and will he enjoy it. What do you think I should do?

It all depends upon what his personal likes/dislikes are. Does he like his independance, or does he like to be a little pampered? Is he more "Wilderness Lodge" or "Grand Floridian?" Are you booking a studio or a one bedroom? For a studio, I'd definitely stay with OKW, as you have two real queen beds.

For a one bedroom, I would defer to his preferences...ask him what he thinks he'd like. I think a young man that age may like AKV (maybe not concierge) or BCV, if he likes swimming and hanging out by the pool. Then again, if he likes the monorail, maybe BLT.

That's the great thing about DVC, something for almost everyone's taste.

Personal view: AKV concierge is pointless for a 16-year old boy. Does he care whether he has daily maid service, turn down service, a newspaper in the morning, the ability to go on a safari attended by adults and little kids, or the ability to go to a lounge for finger foods where he is unlikely to find any 16-year-old girls to look at? BWV would be your best shot, BCV second because both have pools with teens and you have easy access to Epcot and MGM which very often are the more popular parks for teens.

I asked DS 16 his opinion about your question. He chose AKV Concierge (we have stayed at BCV and AKV concierge level). He LOVED the food offerings at the AKV, and LOVED Storm-a-long Bay at BCV, but the food won! He also liked the Sunrise Safari and the Community Hall at AKV, I believe that BCV does not have one. As for the 16 yr old girls that were mentioned - DS says take your son on the Disney Cruise to meet 16 yr. old girls LOL!!!

Of course it did. Any 16 year old boy will choose the food!

We did a 2 week non-DVC trip for my daughter. Boy of Boy was she sick of cake by the end of it Had a great time and now will have great memories of this very special Birthday. Hope you do too!

Our 5 kids - ages 16 to 26 love AKV concierge. They also loved the Wanyama safari, so much so that our 18 year old son even paid for himself to go on it again the next year!

Otherwise, their favorite resort is BCV for the pool and easy access to the 2 parks.

I'd only do the AKV concierge if he is really interested in either of the special safaris there. The sunrise and Wanyama ones are both amazing, but if he's not into that sort of thing, then I'd go elsewhere.
