Hey everyone...I am flying out of Buffalo in November..we are bringing my neice with us...she is 16, so do you think we have to bring anything..ie: letter from mom? She has crossed the boarder driving with us before and they only asked if she had permission to which we stated yes...

My (5) kids have each travelled with aunts and uncles to Florida over the course of their lives. I've always provided a letter giving permission (signed by both DH and myself) for the child to be going, with a detailed description of the persons/vehicles/flights/dates etc, along with permission to act in loco parentis both medically (if necessary) or legally (good grief!). I've never had it notarized, but always sent the letter. I don't think that it has ever been asked for, but I wouldn't go/send them without it-even at 16. In fact, I am in the process up doing up my 16 year old's letter for her trip to Florida this December with her uncle, his wife, their 6 kids and her niece. Now THAT'S a grand gathering. :goodvibes

We've taken my two younger cousins to WDW twice ... flying over the border mind you. The second time was August of last year, just after the whole "liquids on planes" thing started. On both trips, the letter wasn't requested as we were clearing US Customs and leaving but WAS requested both times as we were clearing customs to GET BACK INTO Canada! (We found this funny, but were glad we had a notarized letter nonetheless.) THe kids were 15 and 12 at the time.

With the way security can be nowadays, I would bring a letter.

Thank you...I did read on a website for the US border that anyone under 18 (I thought it was 16) needed a letter...it states that they may not ask for it but it was a good idea to have it. I also called SW to see if they would let her board the plane and they said yes, but to cross the border they suggested getting the letter as well.. No big deal..I've already contacted her mom's lawyer and she will be drawing up the letter...she emailed me requesting info for the letter, ie; my full name, DOB, where we are going, how long, flight info etc. I also have to bring a copy of my sister court order because she has full custody....I am just glad I am getting it all now...Gee, I only have 43 days left:yay:
