Congratulations go to you Tara!!

I've been confirmed since fourth grade, but only really accepted Him into my heart over the past two years, with the wakeup call being at ALIVE! Hugs are going out to you and yours.

Let's make this a great day!!

*Disney experts-what restaurants should we do?*

Just a quick check-in. The trip went great and I got a lot of exercise btwn riding bikes, climbing sand dunes and walking. Eating was so so at best. I have more junk food than planned, but I also did get more exercise so hopefully it balanced out.

Debra - I saw you are thinking of visiting Mackinaw over Labor Day. I am not sure if you are aware of this, but Labor Day is when they do the annual bridge walk. In morning on Labor Day half of the Mackinaw bidge is shut down to car traffic and only pedestrians can access the bridge. So needless to say Mackinaw is a zoo that weekend. Of course now that I have warned you, I will be there with DH, and kids walking the bridge. We normally go up Sat. and come home Tues. This year we are staying in Cheboyan, and driving to Mackinaw the day of the walk.

now we are flying for less than that and saving 20 hours of our vacation! :) I am just sooo tickled and now this trip really must go off...can't wait for that house to close on the 31st so I can breathe! :)

This is great! We have been spoiled by flying over the past couple of years. Now we are worried about airfares for March. We had been going to Florida twice a year, but now that the girls are in school we are cutting back to once a year (in March for spring break), so I told DH that when Southwest opens its fares for those dates I am booking no matter what! It won't get any better than those fares, I'm sure.

Did my walk this morning, my neighbor has been MIA since her weekend trip..so I've been able to go at a more relaxed speed...I only added 2 minutes but it was nice not to be in RAMBO mode! :)

That is great! I did my 1 mile yesterday, but it isn't intense at all....but better than nothing. :rolleyes:

Oh and on a personal note, my oldest daughter asked Jesus into her heart and is so excited to have picked out her own Bible to celebrate this decision. It's a big day for her and seeing a child come to this on their own is quite a thing. Thanks for letting me share!

Tara

That is wonderful Tara!

Good morning!

Oh, yesterday was a great day! I bought a few new clothes and must say I think they look very nice on me. I also found two pairs of shoes! I've been searching all summer for strappy sandals with a heal that isn't 5 inches tall! I can't teach in high heals! LOL! I found some open back shoes from Target and bought them in black and brown. Yeah!

I also had a completely 100% OP day yesterday! I find that the hardest time in my day is afternoon through after dinner. Since I was out yesterday, I packed myself a snack and ate it in between running to each store. Yeah!

Debra - Ah, yes! Closing time is so much fun! LOL! Unfortunately, VMK is not set up to search for other members. (i.e. you can't search for my name) Almost all the dis people I know have dis or dis boards in their signature. If your daughter finds a dis person make sure that she says she is dis, too! :) Maybe one day we'll meet on VMK! :) Oh, and if you aren't online your room will not show up...we will have to set up a place and time to meet soon! :) Let me know...I'm pretty free this week. Give me a time and we'll pick the place! :)

ashjohnson - Welcome! It sounds like you have a great handle on your healthy food lifestyle, as well as your attitude! Slow and steady wins the race...or in my case...it's how my body works! LOL!

Linda - Ah...I did follow your moderation rule yesterday! Actually it wasn't that hard...I really wanted some capri pants, but couldn't find any pair that fit me quite right! LOL! Thus, less spending! ;) Also, check out the VMK board here on the DIS...there is a player's guide and lots of information if you want to play! :)

Tiger - I hear ya about not liking something! It's amazing how my own taste buds have changed over the summer. Things that used to taste really good aren't that great now. It may be the taste buds, but it also could be the side of guilt that it's served with! LOL! ;)

Maria - I think it's natural to tinker with your food. I think I've finally found (within the past week) what works for me. I feel like I eat all the time (every 2-3 hours), but (of course!) I'm never hungry. I've also realized that although I don't like eating meat, I need some protein...a huge veggie salad doesn't fill me up enough unless there is some protein on in. I also think that a big step is when you realize that something is not working. Kudos to you!

Tara - Much congrats to you all around! I can't believe how hard to work for that walk! I'm excited for your daughter, as well! What an exciting moment that must have been! :)

Starches: Cereals, grains, pasta, breads, crackers, snacks, starchy vegetables, and cooked beans, peas, and lentils. (From the Exchange Lists for Weight Management - American Dietetic Association and the American Diabetes Association).

Well, I really don't want to do anything today...I'm just feeling lazy! However, I do have to get a few things done...tomorrow I think I'm going to head over to school and put away a few more things. Frankly, I just don't want to finish up my to do list! I know, I know...give me a few minutes and I'll get there! :)

Have a wonderful day everyone! :)

Lisa

Day 6: Under the public guise of an "upper respiratory infection," President Kennedy returns to Washington from Chicago after being convinced by Robert Kennedy that he must meet again with his Executive Committee to discuss, among other things, the discovery of additional Soviet missiles in Cuba.

Day 6: Hmmm. For some reason I'm thinking of family get-togethers, when I have to learn to say no to Great Grandma Margie's cranberry squares -- "No, I really would just care for one" or "I couldn't possibly eat another bite". Lies, I tell you! But these are things I need to learn to say...until they are really true!

On the other front, is the issue I talked about earlier. Turns out this weight loss thing is a much worse problem than I have been allowing myself to believe - I can't fix this in a few weeks. As Dr. Phil would say, it's obviously workin' for me on some level. There's also the issue of when some comes off, I still don't seem to look like Halle Berry. Or heck, I'd settle for Catherine Zeta-Jones. What's up with that? :rotfl:

Debra -- I'm envious you're already planning your next trip. I have tried to talk to DH about ds's February vacation week, but he doesn't want to hear it yet. At least he didn't say no outright... And you are doing great with the exercise. It's so hard to keep doing it, and you are!

Tara -- I'm so pleased for you about your daughter! And being able to fly will make your "getting there" much more comfortable. That house is going to close before you know it! And a big WooHoo for you! Working out even without your buddy is terrific.

Jen -- You don't have to have hot chocolate just for me, how about some warm apple cider? Just enjoy your moments and know we will all be thinking of you and wishing you a wonderful time!

Regina -- I'm sure you did fine. It's so hard not to eat junk food when you are away from home...and all that exercise was great for you!

Here's wishing everybody a Happy Tuesday!

Actually, if you want to do the Disney Cruise at the best price, you have to book as soon as it comes out (and 2007 prices are expected to be out soon). I booked our 2006 four night March spring break cruise in September 2004 and so far the price has gone up $800! Also if you want a secret porthole room (that is a room with an obstructed view window so they only charge you for an inside room--therefore, a FREE window, there are only 6 of these rooms) you have to book fast because they are gone very quick! We have had one of these rooms for our last 3 cruises and have one for our March 2006 cruise. Now we are spoiled, but I won't 'pay' for a window.

SO anyone thinking of a 2007 cruise, start thinking about booking! The time is coming real soon! I am sitting on pins and needles just hoping to get my favorite room!

You are so right! I booked the land/sea package we are starting in 8 days back in January 2004...That's the furthest out I've ever booked, but I think it will be well worth it!

We are in a little quandary about vacationing next year. We agreed to go on a cruise to Bermuda next August with my BIL and SIL. He works at a naval base that may be closing, and if it does they aren't going. DH wants to go anyway, but I'm really starting to like the idea of Freedom of the Seas. We've been on the Explorer twice, and we loved RCCI. Anyway, we haven't booked anything yet because of their situation. I can just see those prices rising...

Maria

Oooh! I think I would LOVE a cruise!!! You guys are making it sound soo fun! I'm soo super claustrophobic and would need the bigger rooms..with our family of five I don't think there'd ever be a big enough sale to get me on one of those...maybe just me and dh when the kids are gone...for now I'll enjoy it vicariously through you guys! :)

Well, I did the walk this morning, had a crappy lunch...chicken tenders and fries....felt nauseous all night from all that fat on my tummy so skipped dinner..but then I was so light headed I managed to eat some leftover potato salad...so a crappy day...I went right to the store and bought some strawberries/blackberries and lemons..gonna fix a smoothie in the morning to set my body right! :)

Lisa!! GREAT JOB on an OP day...I'm still hoping for one of those...I'm doing MUCH better than last week and even saw the scale dip low today but I need your discipline to make it stick..thanks for posting such a great day...it shows me it CAN BE DONE!

Maria..ya gotta have a cranberry square...just to pay homage to your dear grandma! :) Drink lots and lots of water and nibble on small foods...go for the finger stuff and find the smallest plate you can and fill it up...it won't be so bad...bring a camera to keep your hands busy taking pictures of everyone! :) You can do it!!!

Debra!!! YOU DID THE ONE MILE!!! Let me hear the CHEERS!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: You are going to feel much better for doing it...and you'll see that weight taking off when you least expect it! :)

Regina!! WELCOME BACK!! I think you did GREAT...those campouts are always fun and you're more active than you think! We missed ya!

TC-you precious little thing- we have some FAVES with eating at Disney...we're all about atmosphere and a bit about good food...so ours turn out to be Liberty Tavern, Castle, Rose & Crown, Donald's Breakfastsaurus, Chef Mickey's, and this time we're trying 3 new ones...Mama Melrose's, Yachtsman, and Whispering Canyon Cafe...gotta love that dining plan! :) Let us know what you guys choose! :)

Have a great day everyone...these 13 days are flying by!!!

Tara

I would love to join! I am currently about 80 pounds away from my goal weight which is just under 150. I am having a hard time recovering from a bad Hershey Park trip that threw me off track. :( :( :( :( :(

Any pixie dust will help!

Tara,
You guys would LOVE the cruise, and by homeschooling you could go in off season when the rates are cheaper! We always went in September (the cheapest month) when we were homeschooling (and on every cruise there was at least one other homeschool family sailing with us--the kids thought that was neat). For your size family you would want to get two connecting Cat. 10 rooms and then you would leave the door open between your rooms. The room stewart would not shut it if you just tell him you are a family and want it left open. This gives you two bathrooms too! Believe it or not, this is less expensive than the Cat. 4 room that sleeps 5! Of course if you want a balcony, that moves up the price a LOT. We never have had a balcony, we are hardly in our rooms.

The 3 or 4 night is the perfect one to start with, but if you want to make the trip really educational, the Western one lets you stop in Key West and you can go to the Southern most point, Ernest Hemingway's home, and Truman's Little White House (you can walk to this from the ship), then in Grand Cayman you can go to a Turtle farm (actually get to pick up the turtles) and swim with sting rays (this was WAY cool). In Cozumel we took a submarine rise, but you can also go and visit the Tulum ruins (we wanted to do this, but decided against it, now I wish we had gone).

Anyway, I think you would love it! And it could fit right into your 'educational travel plans' :earsboy: .

Welcome, NikkiBell! This is a great group! It has really helped me stay on track this time.

We would love to go to Hershey Park! We are thinking about maybe trying it next summer, but who knows! It is so hard to plan things around all the schedules for activities and things.

Well vacation is over and now is the time to get serious! We love to travel (wish we could go more) and I always let go and enjoy myself on our trips, but once I'm home it is back on track! So time to get going. I started on Jan. 1st (yes, a New Year's resolution) and I have lost 50 pounds so far. I am chasing after Tara's 60 pound clippie though! I am hoping to have it by Thanksgiving!

Debra

Welcome NIKKIBELL!!!! :) You are in a perfect place to get that little extra you need to see you through the rough spots and show you how to CELEBRATE each victory...can you believe folks don't scream and shout when they have a 1 pound loss??? That's HUGE!!! 80 of those and you're DONE!!! :) Each one is a celebration to get off and gone...come on in...lots of us started where you are or even further and can help you find your losing zone!

I did a big breakfast this morning..dd was actually awake before I got back from my walk..we got rained on half of the walk and I was wearing a white shirt....I got soaked and my white bra just seemed to glow through it. UGH! I'm sure only I noticed...or that crew of hispanic construction workers who smiled and laughed when they saw what a pair of wet rats we looked like this morning!! The good news is that I am officially habitually walking now...I have stuck to my 26 miles a week goal and I'm going on my third week..only 3 more days of walking to complete 3 weeks of this!!! I was tired the 2nd week and plugged on...now I've really made it a habit...if I keep this up through the winter I should be at GOAL by the new Year...atleast I hope so! I think I can make it to the 160's by the wedding and lose 15 between then and sometime winter 2006...it's amazing to think I'll FINALLY be at GOAL after 10 years of being over 200!!! YEAH!!!

Made a fresh bowl of strawberries and blackberries for snacks today and I already feel better!

What are your good snacks for today???

Tara

Welcome NikkiBell!!!! Tell us a little about yourself (more than what you did!)!! We're glad you're here!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tara-Thanks! We want to try Boma's, Rose and Crown, CM's, Whispering Canyon, some WS places (my mom is adamant that we try something we can't get at home at the WS...like Moroccan food, French food, Canadian food)...I'll tell you more when I know more. Thank you!!!
Maria-Warm apple cider I can do! Thanks!!!! I wish you all could come with me-maybe I could take a picture of you guys...
Thanks Lisa!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Okay, y'all. I have become addicted to dipping fruits!! I mean, first it was those Fruit and Walnut Salad, then I started dipping apples in vanilla yogurt, then it was apples and lemon yogurt. Most recently it was strawberries and lemon yogurt. Good but ADDICTING!

Good morning!

Well, yesterday was interesting by far. My friend did not get the job she was so hoping for and I basically had to rescue her! :( Oh, it breaks my heart! She is such a wonderful person and has just had it with the job market here. She called me crying hysterically and I told her I would be right over. She basically cried for the next hour...I think she is just tired of searching...three years for a permanent position! So, after I calmed her down we went to the mall. I did need a few things so it was a needed trip anyways.

As for my healthy eating yesterday, things were a little thrown off. I may have eaten over my calories, but I tried my best! I split a pretzel with her for a snack. Then, we went out to dinner and I had chicken fajitas. I ordered rice and beans, too, because I thought that would satisfy me. I didn't overeat, but the combination of foods kept me full until late this morning!

I know for my friend it's onward and upwards!

As for me, I'm feeling back in the game today. The interesting thing yesterday was that I had no desire to overindulge, no want for dessert or a fruity drink. I looked at the menu...found an option with lots of veggies and protein...and ate away! I'm so proud of myself! :)

Have a wonderful day everyone! :)

Lisa

Day 7: After learning that an air strike against the missile sites could result in 10-20 thousand casualties, and that another U-2 flight discovered bombers and cruise missile sites along Cuba's northern shores, President Kennedy decides on a naval blockade of Cuba. When confronted with questions regarding rumors of offensive weapons in Cuba, Kennedy asks the press not to report the story until after he addresses the American public.

Day 7: O.k., the most shocking information for me is that the media kept quiet when they were asked to do so. Can you see that happening today?! So here's where my taking an alternative route comes in. When I try to be a perfectionist and do everything right to lose weight at once, I just implode. Mentally I can't change everything at the same time. So, I'm on this challenge -- Hey, we're halfway through! And when I get back I'm going to shore up the habits I had down before I left, and start adding new ones. I know I need to work on getting more fruits, veggies and dairy in my diet. So, those will probably be my next goals. Right now, just eating within my points is challenge enough.

I have to weigh in today -- because of the day we leave I'm on this weird schedule where I'm weighing every 5 days, or else I'd have to weigh on Saturday and then Monday, and that's just silly. But....TOM is here in all his glory. I ache, the last thing I want to do is step on the treadmill or a scale. Well, I'm going to make myself do it. I'll check in later tonight and let you know how it went.

Lisa -- I'm so sorry about your friend! It's great that you were there for her, and you also did a fantastic job with eating out. That's real progress, or I know it would be for me!

Jen -- Your fruit dipping combinations sound luscious! Yum.

Tara -- You have made walking a habit! And you have come so far! We are all jealous of your clippie, but not really because we know how hard you worked to get it. My good snack today was a box of raisins. 1 pt., but I ate each one individually so it took awhile.

Debra -- I'm betting you are going to make your goal by Thanksgiving. You have done so well, you seem to achieve whatever you set your mind to.

Kathy -- How are you feeling? We are all worried about you. Just hope you're taking it easy and recovering well.

NikkiBell -- Welcome! You will find lots of great support here. Pixie dust on order, and sometimes when you least expect it. Definitely when you need it most. :wizard:

Linda -- Hope you're havin' a blast at Disney!

Regina -- How's it goin'? We're all going through that go away and get back period, and I know you can do it!

Everybody else -- Hang in there and have a fabulous day! We're halfway through our 13-day weight loss crisis kicking, and we are doing great!

Maria

Thanks for the support everyone! I am trying! :rolleyes:

Today was difficult to get motivated to move a bit. For some reason, I am just so exhausted! I wound up doing 45 minutes of fat burning yoga and will walk tomorrow.

I am so glad to hear that some of you are making walking a habit! I am trying to walk to Disney myself, but am wondering if my pedometer is working correctly. I walk blocks and blocks and blocks and it shows only about a mile! :confused3

Tonight I think I am going to make wheat pasta with peppers and some chicken. I am not sure what else I am going to throw in there, but Rozini (Sp?)'s wheat pasta is excellent!!!!

Nikkibell...I think those pedometers are tricky...I've never figured out how to tell..I just ride around in my car until I see the number I want to walk click and then do that. Or I time it...I can really tell the difference between a 17 minute mile and a 15 minute mile (lots of time on treadmill in winter)...so if I walk for 20 minutes I'm pretty sure I've atleast walked a mile and maybe more. Walking has been a saving tool for me...it saves me from having cravings, it saves me from having an excuse to not exercise since it takes so little to do. You will start knocking down those tens brackets (10 pounds, 20 pounds etc.) much quicker with adding walking...I started here at WISH 2.5 years ago...I was at 241 when I started and didn't start walking until 225...when I added just 2 miles 4x a week the weight really came off almost double the time. Now that I'm in the mid 170's it's taking me 4 miles 6x a week to get the same losses...but I really do feel better and I'm grateful for the progress....you'll see it and believe it! :)

I just denied myself a Little Debbie nutter bar...and opted for some extra strawberries/blackberries. YEAH!!! I did have about 20 semi-sweet chocolate chips..I'm trying really hard to cut out sugar for the next four weeks to up my losses. The semi-sweet chips are enough chocolate to curb my cravings and very few carbs compared to a nutter bar! :)

Need to get more water in, though...I've only had one glass today!!! One diet mountain dew and that's it!!! Isn't that crappy???? Off to fill up a glass! :)

Tara

Howdy!

Just a quick check-in after my weigh in. I'm down 1.6, to 172.6! That's a grand total of 14 pounds overall! I'm .6 from my next DIS clippie, so I'm really going to work to make sure I get it! That's my goal for my next weigh in on Monday - I don't think I will get under 170, but I do think I will be closer than I realistically thought was possible. Although, I have to tell you, I really want to make it below 170. I know it's just a number and probably ounces, but I want to make it happen before I go.

And, since TOM is here, I was really stunned to see a loss, but in a happy way :Pinkbounc I even did my treadmill time today!

Nikkibell -- pedometers can definitely be tricky. Do you have yours set to your stride? I did that and it really made a difference. I'm 5'4", and my stride is pretty short. I have to do more like 20,000 steps rather than 10,000 to make a difference.

Tara -- Sometimes you just need a can of diet Mountain Dew! I remember loving that stuff when I was a kid. A 2 liter bottle of Mountain Dew, a bag of cheetos, a bag of twizzlers, The Love Boat and Fantasy Island. When I was 9, that was the perfect Saturday night...Great job picking fruit for your snack! I am starting to be satisfied with less food, so that's a good sign. I don't really miss those extra two points I had to give up anymore.

Well, I'm off for reading and getting ready for tomorrow. I seem to have more energy lately. I'm feeling so good right now, I wanted to share :goodvibes

I know we can all achieve our goals! If I were Jen, I'd write a cheer...but I'm not, so I'll say Thank You to everyone. Honestly, all the progress I've made this summer has been since I've found this board. :grouphug:

Have an awesome night!

That is so wonderful! By the end of August you will be in the 160s! Just think of that! It can happen!

I know they are just numbers too, but some how, it just feels SO good to move to that next set of 10's.

Good For You Maria!
