Not being funny but, if you looked hard enough, you could probably find all sorts of similar stories all over the world (including UK). The sad truth is, this sort of thing does happen and, personally, I think that posting them here just serves to scaremonger and worry people.

I totally agree wilma-bride - I read about this on the local 6 news website but thought it would be better not to post anything, it only gets people worried and thats not what we want to see.
I would have thought that this is exactly appropriate to trip planning, like anywhere you go in the world you make judgements based on information available, if the information is restricted how can you make a balanced call on whether you should visit. These sites work because of the fact members report things that otherwise people may not know.
An example of this ....the other year I went to Wet and Wild on Memorial day. On arrival found that there were armed police all over the park because of gang fights that had taken place the previous year. The atmosphere was tense, if i had known about the gang fights would I have taken my young kids on Memorial day, no I would have planned it for another day.
