$15/Day to self park at GCH...

The DLR have always charged a resort fee for the hotel guests, I think it's currently $12 or $13 plus tax. The resort fee included parking, internet and resort facilities.

We've never had to pay it if we've stayed on points at any of the DLR.

I don't know if they could add a parking fee for DVC, as all those fees, taxes, transient fee, etc. are already included in our points. You pay only for charges made to the room. The only difference was before the internet was free to DVC guests, we always got billed for internet.

I have no idea, but that would be really horrible if they made GCV owners pay for parking. How will they justify the "Welcome Home" slogan if you have to pay to park at your own house. $15/day is alot!

How true that is! We have only been owners for a short time, but just stayed at VGC and it was GRAND! With that being said we have no prior knowledge of old perks or the previous ways of doing things. It does seem like many hotels are going this route though as crazy as it is. Stayed in Phoenix a few days this summer and was charged to park our own car. It would be nice if DVC members were exempt from the parking fee and will be thrilled if it turns out that way, but won't count on it.

Parking charges are becoming more and more popular with hotel operators, much like luggage fees for airlines. The internet travel sites are partly responsible for that, searching for the cheapest room rate. I'm surprised we haven't seen "free" lodging, with a fee for sheets, mattresses, electricity, water, air conditioning, etc.

If they do start charging DVC for hotel parking, we should see dues drop for the California villas, as those fees were surely included in the resort operating costs.

Just wondering if there is anything in the purchase docs that mentions that parking is included or to be provided etc...

While I do not have a copy of the POS that includes any resort except for OKW, I doubt there is such a clause in the California property. DVC Offering Statements usually do not guarantee anything, other than the right to use your points at home home resort based upon availability. There are no guarantees that the parks, or other area attraction, will continue to operate or that Disney would continue to be the DVC property manager.

I understand parking charges at hotels for hotel guests. But what is the industry standard for timeshares with regards to parking at a resort?

Believe me, I would be unhappy if there was no free parking available for DVC members at VGC or at any of the DVC resorts.

The VGC annual dues include a collection for "pavement resurfacing."

Since the only other paved area at VGC is the short entry / port cochere, I assume those monies are related to the parking lot. If so, I don't see how they could charge members an additional parking fee. If we're paying to maintain the lot, they can't turn around and also charge us a usage fee.

Valet is a little different. There they can charge extra because the fee is for a service provided--parking and retrieving the vehicle.

Most timeshares don't charge for parking, as the parking areas and upkeep are usually covered under common area expense. However, at a shared parking area, like DL, the upkeep of the parking areas may not be included in common area/resort operating expenses, and then would be charged upon use...much like the valet usage at WDW.

If I were a DVC owner at VGC, I would contact member accounting/member satisfaction to inquire if it is a common area expense charged in dues, or if it will be pay as you go in 2011, with any maintenance for the parking area removed from dues.

I decided to contact MS over this and here is the reply:

"Thank you for contacting DISNEY VACATION CLUB®.

The pricing structure for DISNEYLAND® Resort Hotel guests has not
changed. The price for parking at the Mickey & Friends Parking
Structure has increased to $15 for the Theme Park parking, but this does
not have any affect on the Resort Hotels.

Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance."

I had said I was referring the reported change happening in 2011 and if members staying on points would be required to pay a fee for self parking or since some MF's go for pavement resurfacing if we would be exempt.

That is very good news! Thanks for sharing the info! :goodvibes

Thank you. This had me a bit concerned as well.

The response does seem to have some incorrect info but I am hopeful it's correct that we won't pay the fee. According to info on the DL boards the parking fee is going into effect for the resorts and the resort fee has been dropped. :confused3 Since we have never paid the resort fee - which was partially supposed to cover parking - then I hope the info I received back is correct that we won't have a fee.

But what is the industry standard for timeshares with regards to parking at a resort?
It really depends on the specific circumstances at each location. In the cases where the parking lots themselves are "owned" by the timeshare's HOA, they are almost always free. However, in cases where the HOA is a smaller part of a larger resort complex, the parking may or may not be included (and paid for out of MFs)---the more urban/developed the destination, the more likely that parking will carry a separate charge rather than be included in the annual fees for all owners.

If the VGC parking charges do come to fruition, I wonder how they will handle those of us who have a pass that includes parking at DLR?
