If I was the neighbor's wife with the small children I'd be on the phone to the police ASAP. No way would I put up with this woman and her biting great dane next door to 2 year olds. I read your earlier post about her "kennel" - If she's announcing to the whole world that the dog is a biter wouldn't she have to have a enclosure strong enough to keep him in or risk having animal control take him away? :confused3

Not according to the Sheriff's Office, State Police, Dog Warden, and the officials at Town Hall.. Until the dog is actually seen running loose or bites someone (and that someone files a complaint) we all just have to "wait it out"..:headache:

I'd be livid. So as a parent I'd have to risk having this dog kill one of my children before something would be done. I feel bad for you C. Ann - I love dogs but this would scare me to death.

My dad had our pit bull put to sleep because we had moved to a neighbor hood with a lot of kids and the dog kept getting out. He never bit anyone after we moved here but we were really afraid that he would. Just couldn't take that chance.

C.Ann........about the muzzle, it may very well do the trick for the great dane, I can understand why it would not stay on a Pom, but Danes, Like greyhounds have a different shape face, with the long nose, and the way the strap would fit behind their ears, is totally different from a Pom. I just thought I would throw that out there to maybe give you a little relief, although if the muzzle does not fit properly(to loose) it will come off. Most of the greyhounds in our kennel didn't get them off, we had one that would get his off and carry it around with him in his mouth, I guess he figured as long as he had it with him he was OK:goodvibes Although greyhounds are RARELY biters, it is done more so because they are with so many other dogs at most times.
But more to the point, is this woman should have adequate fencing and the dog should never be unsupervised and should take as many precautions as possible.

Do not think you will have the steadiness to swing something and make contact with a moving, terrifying, attacking object with enough force to change his mental mindset of attacking you.

I would use the mace or a stun gun or better yet a stun rod so you can be farther from the animal.

Maybe if the neighbor sees you with the weapon she will make more effort to contain the animal.

Mikeeee

Since you said they are no longer barking from 6am on - maybe it has gotten better -

but seriously I hope you do continue to document, and if you can record that barking - it is a good basis for a nuisance lawsuit!! Band together with your nieghbor and keep mace and a stun gun handy!!
