14 days, ticket options?

We're planning a January trip to WDW, staying 14 days on site using DVC points. We plan to visit a few off site FL attractions (Universal, etc.) while there, but don't want to plan which days yet. The cost of APs is a bit rich for us (even with a DVC discount) so we're thinking of getting 10 day park hoppers. I think I read that, once activated, tickets need to be used within 14 days so we wouldn't necessarily need to visit the WDW parks for 10 consecutive days. Is this correct? I understand there's no non-expiration option anymore.

Thanks for any help, suggestions.

Correct.

As a DVC Member, can't you get a gold AP with the limited black-out dates for $549? It would be approximately $100 more per person but you'd get a LOT more value out of it. Just a thought.

I'll look into the DVC discounted gold AP. Thanks for the suggestion - might make sense, depending on the blackout dates.
