I have two boys 13 and 10. My 13 yo is “young” and I’m pretty sure he would rather hang out with his brother and have more fun in the Oceanears Club area. Does anyone know if DCL would allow my 13yo in the younger kid club? Who would I contact to find out?

Just to clarify, you NEVER can go down. A 13 year old cannot go into the 3-12 club. An 18 year old will never be allowed in the 14-17 club. There are occasions where they will allow a kid to move up (i.e. a 10 year old to go into the 11-14 club).

There are open house times so they could go to clubs together then.

Edge will have plenty of 11-13 yr olds in their club, your 13 yr old might actually enjoy it.

There are many Open House hours in the kids clubs throughout the cruise, when anyone can go in. That will be when they can go in together.

Yep... all of the above. Sometimes kids can age up. There's pretty much no chance that they'll be able to age down. My DS13 is also a small/young 13; he spent almost every waking moment of our last cruise in the Club/Lab because he knew he'd age out before our next cruise. Fortunately he likes Edge pretty well, and we'll take advantage of open house if he wants to. He might not; our next cruise isn't until August and they grow and mature so quickly at this age.

Like everyone has said, we can’t even register an older child into the Club/Lab. Make sure your 13 year old attends Edge on the first night. He may find some friends his age or discover some activities he wants to do.

Our boys are 3 years apart and on our first cruise our oldest had more fun in the club than the lab and the CM's had no issues with it. By the second cruise they were both in the lab because our oldest didn't get anything out of the tween club. I would ask because unless DCL has now adopted marshall law....

You won't be able to register them in a different club but you can walk up to the club and ask them. I would ask because unless DCL has now adopted marshall law....

It is not about martial law. It is about child protection standards and best practices.
Also capacity issues. They stop allowing families with kids under 13 to even book the cruise when the maximum number of kids for the club/lab has been reached.

You don't mention how old your boys were for these cruises. There is a 2-yr overlap between Club/Lab and Edge -- ages 11 and 12 are allowed to do both the younger Club/Lab and the tween Edge. I suspect your oldest was in that overlap age range when he was allowed to do the Club/Lab.

DCL has been very strict on the upper age limits for all of the kids' spaces for many years now -- nearly a decade I believe, probably at least 8 years.

OP - your oldest can join the younger one in the Club/Lab during "Open House" times which are scheduled each day. The younger can also join the older sibling at Edge during Open House times there. They can also enjoy many other activities around the ship together -- Sports Simulator, movie theater, the detective agency game (depending on ship), any "all ages" cooking or crafts or towel-folding workshops, etc.

Enjoy your cruise!

Lanejudy thanks for setting me straight. I got confused on that one and missed the magical number 13. Your answer that it's been strict for 10 years made me go back and check to see I missed this. Our boys are 3 years apart but on our second cruise our oldest had just turned 13 and when we toured his area he had no interest in it. This was 5 years ago. Maybe the CM's made an exception because of his birthday.

We just got back and have a 12 and 10 year old. They offered to let us fill out a waiver for our 10 yr old to age up to the Edge to be with his 12 yr old sister but bro and sister don’t really want to hang out so we didn’t pursue it. I’m not sure if that is always an option or if it was because there was capacity on our cruise. You may have the option though for your 10 yr old to go to the Edge with the 13 yr old if you are comfortable with it.
