I wasn't speaking of the comatose in that instance. Do you have anything further to add or are you just picking my post apart? I acknowledged your point that there are some t/p/v patients have quality of life. I guess you've never been witness to the rotting bodies kept "alive".

Now I am not a doctor, I repeat I am not a doctor so no, I do not know what was going on inside her throat or what specifically was wrong with her BUT we are an overweight nation, obesity causes tons of other issues.

We (as in American culture in generally) are also a quick fix nation. we'd rather do surgery, pop pills or fad diets instead of doing the long term stuff to stay healthy.

Now none of that takes away from the tragedy of this story at all.

As you said, you're not a doctor and even most doctors never evaluated Jahi or have access to her charts. Meaning that someone on an internet comment board may be completely oversimplifying a complex medical case with the valuable advice every overweight person has received.

Well Jahi's mom has made news again. Her landlord is suing her for unpaid rent. And Jahi is being taken care of the house on machines,etc.

It didn't work so well at Christmas, IIRC. I wonder how long this can play out. I think their lawyer has backed away from the case to some extent.

I haven't looked into this in a long time, but surely that number is the total they've received at this point? I'm pretty sure donations started drying up a long time ago.

I'm not sure anyone knows for sure where her body is, but the article does sound like it's speculating that she's in the house with the unpaid rent.

Death still isn't a reversible condition. Perhaps they've been able to keep the otherwise dead body going through extraordinary intervention beyond what's typical, but that doesn't mean that there's any chance that she will ever be alive. She's about as alive as Lenin or Ho Chi Minh, even though the body has been somewhat preserved.

that's exactly what I thought. I would have thought her body would have deteriorated more.

I was following a thread on another forum with some extremely smart people (including doctors and nurses) who were speculating about what measures they are taking to preserve the body, and explaining what changes happen to the body in the event of brain death. One thing I picked up is that there is some uncertainty as to exactly what will happen to Jahi, and that is because brain dead bodies are usually not kept around, because it's not ethical. Terri Shiavo, for example, was in a persistent vegetative state, iirc, which is different. But in other words, there is no data because we do not typically keep dead bodies alive to find out what happens.

Sorry to be gruesome. This case caught my attention because of the strong anti-science sentiment. I feel so bad for the school kids who were asked to pray for her to wake up. They probably feel like they "failed".
