i realize this is too big to fit in rented minivan comfortably, but we've already got one in our kitchen, so it's coming along for the ride from jersey.

my question is which model minivan might best accomodate this size unit AND how best to secure it for the trip? local avis office told us we'll probably have a few models to choose from

any input is appreciated

We had a Chevy Venture, with a 13" tv/vcr combo. We had to remove part of the side of one of the front seats to fit it in. Once in however, that baby wasn't going anywhere. So..don't rent one of those!!
I have heard of people securing them with bungee cords.

We just fitted our 13" combo in our 2001 Dodge Caravan Sport. Our model has the two bucket seats in the second row and we placed the 13" combo on the floor between the front and second row of seats. The TV is in there tight and we bought a wedge made from styrofoam in a special nylon pouch (with velco on the bottom). This wedge keeps the TV at a good angle so anyone in the second and back row can see it.
