My Dad wants to take 13 of us to DL in June. Four families, four rooms. My kids are 5 & 8, and the other kids are 14, 14 & 17. Any suggestions on a place to stay? Just to have something, I have booked rooms at the Sheraton Anaheim at $125/night (plus tax and parking), and my sister wanted me to check out the Fairfield Anaheim Marriott ($159/night). I haven't stayed in the DL area in awhile (except the GCH which kind of spoiled me), and would love your advice  ! Budget would be $100-$150 night, if possible. I don't know if my kids (autistic) can walk very far, so we might need a shuttle. The others don't mind walking, and would probably prefer it.

Which Sheraton in Ahaheim are you talking about? The one at 900 South Disneyland Drive has their own dedicated shuttle that will take you to and from the parks. If you got that rate, that is a very good rate. It looks really nice, more of a hotel than the places right on Harbor. You could walk from that one but it would be a bit of a hike, maybe 20 minutes. It has the Heavenly Beds and gets very good reviews.

I know there is another Sheraton, it used to be called the Coast Hotel, it doesn't have a shuttle but you can use the ART for a daily fee. I don't think this one is walking distance however (if it is it would be a pretty long walk).

The Fairfield Inn on Harbor is about a 10 minute walk to the parks. It is more of a motel, has exterior corridors and several restaurants very near to it (McDonald's, Mimi's and Millies all within a two minute walk or less). I personally think that Sheraton is a better deal, especially given that it is cheaper. That Fairfield is not quite as nice and new as some other Fairfields from what I have read others say.

The Candy Cane Inn has its own shuttle as well and is a 10-15 minute walk for those who prefer that. There are also several places there on Harbor that are right at the crosswalk, Best Western Park Place Inn, Tropicana, Carousel, to name a few. They are near the Fairfield, but closer to Disneyland. You might check those. In fact, I recommend you plug in your dates on something like Expedia to check out the various places. Expedia has lots of photos, reviews and information on all the places near to Disneyland. Even if you don't book with them, its a great research tool. Good luck, that is really nice for your dad to do that for all of you!

Yes, it is the Sheraton at 900 South Disneyland Drive. I just booked that AAA rate tonight for our dates. I called up and asked how many rooms I could book and they said I could book nine on the phone. I booked four online and then the rate went up. Maybe that's how their computers work. Anyhow, I looked up the other Sheraton (former Coast) and it seems too far away. I'll check out Expedia and see what comes up.

Just for fun, I did call DLR and they are completely sold out for one of our nights at any of the hotels, but that would have been 4x our budget , but SO MUCH fun.

Thanks for your help. It is fun when my Dad wants me to plan these trips (we did WDW in 2005!).

That Sheraton looks really nice, I have always wanted to stay there. I beliee there is some information that is a bit outdated but has some photos in the sticky thread on the top of this page (I think its called Information on Disneyland Resort hotels or something like that). I know several disboards regulars have stayed there and enjoyed it very much. They have the Heavenly Beds, that look, well heavenly! I think that looks like a very good rate, I have checked rates there frequently since it does look so nice and generally its more like around $149 when I check into it. And I have seen reports on Tripadvisor that if you complain about that parking fee, they will waive it. Just a thought. I think you made a good choice! Its also nice because unlike most of the other places near Disneyland, it has its own restaurant right there which would be convenient. I want to say they have a daily breakfast buffet I hope you have a great trip!

You mean you paid $125 per room per night or for 4 rooms. If for 4 rooms then it is awesome deal otherwise IMHO, very high.

I got 3* Holiday-Inn Anaheim Resort for $48 per night and total for 5 days came to $287 (including tax, etc.,). I hope you know how to bid in priceline.com, otherwise start learning it.

I tried post links but couldn't it showed "Could not find phrase 'error_postcount_too_low_post_links'." , just goto betterbidding.com, locate Orange county - Priceline and search for the hotel name I mentioned.

I would say Doubletree guest suites/convention center hands down! I just returned from this hotel on Friday. It was absolutely beautiful, the staff was great. That free warm chocolate chip cookie. You get at check in. One word, Yummy! You really cannot go wrong with this property!! The ART shuttle. Picks up right, in front of the hotel. The shuttle came every 15-20 minutes. Which was excellent! One day, I walked back to the hotel from Disneyland, and it was a bit of a hike. When I got in the hotel. The front desk clerk, told me it was a 2.34 mile walk. I cannot say enough about this great hotel. Everything looked nice, new, and clean. Check out the reviews on tripadvisor.com. Whatever you choose. Have a magical family vacation!!

The $125 is per room per night, or $432.19 for three nights with taxes (not including parking). I confess that I have only tried priceline for a rental car and not for accommodations. Will priceline work for a large group wanting 4 rooms at the same hotel?

This place sounds really nice. I looked it up and it was $249/night with AAA discount. Egads! But it was 2 rooms, which is nice. Any discounts? What did you pay?

Unless you have special requirement for which you booked the hotel you can book with priceline.

But there are certain constraints with Priceline.

* You won't get the hotel I got, they may give any hotel with specified star rating for the specified area (Disneyland, Anaheim, etc.,) based on your bid amount

* They guarantee only 2 adults per room, you have to talk to your hotel after booking through priceline to change. I called and asked for 2 double beds non-smoking where as the priceline booked 1 king bed.

I would suggest to go to betterbidding.com and find out the average hotel rent for the given star rating and area.

My sister wants to go in August now, and found rates at the Fairfield Inn at $118-126/night with a AAA discount. So it would be about $418 per room.

I'm thinking August will be super hot, and am not sure I want to go then. I also think that my family might just pay the difference to stay at the GCH and enjoy the pool area and close walk. Of course, the price difference is about $700 total!

So, is it unbearably hot in mid-August?
Is it unbearably crowded?

I am planning to stay again at the Ayres Anaheim, though they no longer have the shuttle (not sure why). But it will be $109 per night, including a hot breakfast. I remember the beds being VERY comfortable.

LOVE the Sheraton, that was our hotel pre-kids. It is fantastic and service at that one is first class, restaurants, coffee place, work-out room, great pool and spa, courtyard interior to walk around in, lounge. The walk is too much - you need to do the shuttle. Okay - the shuttle...sometimes takes a while and if a group of people are waiting, you may not get on the next one. Be aware of that, we watched a lot of really unhappy families with kids who were even more unhappy waiting and waiting and waiting. Also...I think the shuttle may be shared by other hotels in that direct vicinity. We paid extra to take a taxi over a few times after waiting an hour...

With our little one, we realize that wait would be impossible. She doesn't have the patience and they get so hungry just every couple hours, we don't have that time, especially with naps also being a factor.

That all being said, the GC is a considerable price difference, what about the DLH or PP? Less money and they are right there. Nice perk for you!!! We haven't done the GC but will this October, until then I'm waiting for them to convince me that it's as great! lol...

There is also the Howard Johnson's across the street, very close, easy walk. Everyone has reported wonderful things about this hotel so I have no problems telling people to try it.

Heat - where are you coming from? We were in Grass Valley until a few months ago, so we're somewhat familiar to the climates you're used to depending upon location. Let's say cooler than Chico/Sacramento/Stockton but much hotter than the coastal cities. Take short sleeves, drinks, jump in Princess Dot's Puddle Park, and do the water rides.

How about Embassy Suites Anaheim South they have very similiar rates, great service, and each family would get a suite, plus the best part of all is 1 it the most beautiful hotel ever and the FREE cook to order breakfast!!!!!!!!!

How about Embassy Suite Anaheim South it include a shuttle and also has great rate every family would get there own suite and it also includes a free cook to order breakfast and has amazing service

We're in San Jose. I was at DL once in August and I remember it being quite hot. I think with the crowds and lines and tired kids, it also seems hotter  .

The DLH was $85 less per night than the GC, so about a $300 savings for three nights. One thing I like about the GC is that if it's 8:42 PM and you want to see the Electrical Parade, you can be in California Adventure by 8:45 PM. It is SO close. But is it $300 more close...probably not. Thanks for the suggestions!

It sounds like you have a good price for the Sheraton Anaheim. I would avoid the heat of August. The Fairfield is not nearly as nice as the Sheraton and the Sheraton has its own shuttle.

Okay so it's gonna be a little hotter feeling for you, but still very enjoyable! Don't worry about it and go!!! Plus you can jump into the indoor rides during the heat, do Tiki Room, shows, or visit your pool. I agree Sheraton is nicer than the Fairfield. Depends on your kids though, if you think those waits would be hard on the kids, $300 isn't much for YOUR sanity.

PS - I'm really jealous that you're in San Jose, Winchester Mansion is one of my other favorite places to visit!
