Wednesday, July 14

Day 7 of our trip. DS was dying to go on Mission Space. He was disappointed when we came in Dec. for MVMCP that we didn't get a chance to ride it and made up promise we would this trip. No problem, I too was dying to ride it.

So we arrived at EPCOT for early opening and headed directly to MS. FYI however, if entering via the "international gateway" located near the "EPCOT resorts" (i.e. BoardWalk), they will not let you through the turnstiles until 8am. This was different than previously when they let us walk through the countries and wait for the rope to drop in future world. Needless to say by the time we got to the ride we had a 20 min. wait. BTW is was awesome!

Our journey to Mars helped us work up an appetite and we were in the mood for some eggs...

breakfast, Electric Umbrella

We had been here and thought it was decent for breakfast. I had the egg sandwich on a bagel, DH had the cheese omelette, and the kids had French Toast sticks. Everything was good. It's a nice place to escape the heat...tables are spaced out better than at Peco Bill (see part V).

Overall rating: 7 1/2 - would come back. Fast easy meal.

We ended up staying at EPCOT for 6 HOURS. This is a lot for us. The kids were hungry and although we didn't want to spoil dinner, we decided to get a snack to hold us over...

lunch/snack, Sommerfest

We ended up at Germany's counter service place. DD and DS split a hot pretzel and DH and I split a hot dog with kraut. Everything was good, though I wish the pretzel (I sampled it of course) was hotter. Also, if it didn't give me a headache, I would have had a tall cold beer. It looked good, but I've never been able to drink during the day without regretting it, LOL.

Overall rating: 7 1/2 - might come back...good food, but not enough to go out of my way for.

We rested back at our room, showered and adventure out for the evening. Mid-vacation, we generally do and "adults night" and put the kids in babysitting.

Kids dinner, Neverland Club

Located at the Poly, DH and I think this is the best place for childcare. You enter through Wendy's window into Neverland. There are lots of video games and craft projects and more for the kids to do. They made lots of friends and didn't want to leave even after being there 4 1/2 hours.

We told them to eat/drink whatever they wanted (even coke which is a rare treat at our house). They had from reports the ususal...pizza, mac and cheese, fries etc. from the kiddie food bar they set up for them.

My only complaint was at check-in the CM was rude and told me if I lost my receipt I would not get my kids back. She also made a big deal about making sure I don't lose the beeper or damage it...it wasn't WHAT she said, but the manner in which she said it which was scolding me like a child!

Overall rating: 8 1/2 - Basic food, excellent atmosphere!!!

After dropping the kids at Neverland Club, DH and I drove over to Yacht and Beach for our dinner...

Dinner, Yachtsman Steakhouse

Of all the times we've stayed at BWV, we haven't had the chance to eat here, though we've wanted to. Decor was what you'd expect lots of wood and nautical artifacts everywhere.

Our server was friendly, originally from Hong Kong I believe. He brought us out sourdough bread and butter and roasted garlic...YUM.

We started with 2 caesar salads. They were nice and cold with a creamy dressing and cruncy croutons. Perfect. DH and I decided on the Chateaubriand for two, cooked medium with a side order of broccoli. The portions were enormous and I ate about half. The beef was tender and cooked to perfection, served with bernaise, crushed potatoes and sauteed mushroons and also swiss chard. The mushrooms had a sherry (I think) glaze that was unbelieveable. I could make a meal out of just these and the broccoli.

For dessert DH ordered us the sampler which had mini versions of all their desserts. WOW! My favorite was the key lime pie.

Service was great. The food, perfection. I think we've found ourselves a new favorite place (at least second to Calif. Grill).

Overall rating: 9 1/2 - beat CG's rating this trip...

More to come soon!!!!

Thanks for the reviews. Im enjoying them.
Isnt YSH wonderful? We too were floored by it on our adult night out. You mentioned bread and butter, did you get the roasted garlic too? I almost fell off my seat when I saw that come out(yes, I like garlic ;) )

Thanks for more great reviews. We have never eaten at YSH, but after reading your review we will have to give it a chance.

Thanks for the great reviews. I agree with Ron from Michigan - I've never been to YSH but after reading your review I'm thinking about adding it to the list for December. We'll be staying at the Swan, so YSH would be a convenient dinner one evening.

The one time that we tried YSH, the New York Strip was not up to par, but the Caesar salad is the 2nd best I have ever had...a lot of restaurants just don't understand how much of a difference a cold plate and fork make to a salad! Our favorite Orlando steakhouse has always been Charlie's...just wish they would locate one in WDW.

Kaycee and Ron - I only hope your experience is as good as ours. I have in the past read mixed reviews...but we loved it.

FYI - I will review Le Cellier later...is was not as good as in the past, very mediocre.

CamColt...yes they did bring out garlic. thanks for reminding me. I added it to the review!!

LOL! Thats ok, on my review I totally forgot about the bread butter and garlic...I dont know how, but I did. ;)

More great reviews!

We agree about Neverland Club. Our boys stayed there last year (first time) when we went to Cal Grill, and the first thing DS10 said when we picked them up was "You were right, Dad!". I had told him beforehand I thought it was probably the best kids club. Though if we were going to Yachtsman Steak House we'd probably just put them in the Sandcastle Club -- they enjoyed that one too.

LOL about the International Gate and Mission Space! We had a very similar experience last year. Fortunately it was just DS7 and me as DW and DS10 weren't interested. So I was left to my native commando tendencies, and we got in line at 8:35AM (for 9:00 opening), and were the second one through the turnstile. They also didn't let us through one minute early, unlike previous years. We really moved (passed only by one "jogger") and arrived at MS at 9:07! Even still we had a 15-20 minute wait. I'm actually tempted to DRIVE to Epcot from BCV!

erikthewise- thanks for sharing your story re: mission space! LOL

I wonder when they changed their policy about letting people in before opening.
