.

Did you do any volunteer work?

Any fundraising activities?

Hold any positions of any club or group?

Are you active in your church?

Though I am self-employed right now and can fill my resume with some work experience, all of the above I have done to some extent and can utilize people from those areas for references. May not be exactly tied to what I am pursuing--but better than nothing.

I would look in those areas.

Have you done any subbing at all? If that was one of your little "odd" jobs, I'd list that first.

Good luck!! (From one teacher to another :) )

Just wanted to say HI and good luck! I got a job in the school cafeteria last week, only part time, after being home 10yrs.
It is a start.:thumbsup2

As far as references, I had to get current ones. ALL of my past ones are GONE...companies have changed names, owners, etc...

My dd is in Girl Scouts and I help out, so a couple of parents & the leader said they would vouch for me if they called them.:goodvibes

Heck...if I can dig up my stuff you can! It is frustrating at first but it gets better.:thumbsup2

I just went through this. For my references I used the principal at my kid's school - she knew me well from my volunteer work and I also subbed there. I also used a principal who attends our church. I had taught his kids at VBS and he'd seen numerous Christmas programs, etc. over the course of a decade that I ran because his kids were the same ages as my own. My third reference was the preschool director at our church. I had subbed for the preschool occasionally and am also chairman of the preschool advisory board. Prior to subbing, instead of my kid's principal I used the Pastor at my church - I guess that won't work for you!

If you think about it, you've probably got many of the same kinds of people you can use. It is tough - my college didn't want to send my "Outdated" placement file. Even though I'd kept it reasonably updated they said they wouldn't send anything over 10 years old. Since I hadn't officially taught in 10 years, that would have x'd everything except subbing out of my file! I stayed on their case until they sent my past references.

I only listed my teaching experience on the application. I left "odd-jobs" off of my resume also, but did put in volunteer work that was applicable.

Good luck! I know how frustrating it can be!
