Now if I could just get my DD to think the way I do - as opposed to trying to get a loan to buy a BMW for a soon-to-be 8 yr. old..

She should save her money. In five years she is going to have to buy clothing stores.

Well - DGD chose to have her birthday party up here at the lake with me rather than one of the "structured" party places that her other Grandmother was going so graciously going to pay for (and believe me, the "other" Grandma is NOT happy about that), so I think I still have "top billing".. Not that it really matters, but I think it speaks volumes about what her priorities are in terms of relationships..

DGD is anxious to get back up here this weekend because we're supposed to make ghosts to hang in the trees for Halloween and make another scarecrow to put in a chair next to my door..

Oh - and she wants me to make her birthday cake.. Doesn't want anything to do with a "store bought" one...

I will not stoop to that woman's level and engage in a "buying" war.. Ain't gonna happen...

I think your DGD is about the same age as my DD who just turned 7. I know my DD wishes my mom lived next door so that she could see her all the time. They have a wonderful relationship that has nothing to do with gifts. It's about spending time together playing games, reading, talking etc. When all those toys are long forgotten she'll still remember the special times you shared. You're doing the right thing by not competing because in your DGD's eyes you're already a winner.
