Seriously, If my inlaws decided to invite themselves on my trip, I would make a big change to my ressies, and not tell them!!!
Live GUILT FREE!!!!
Do whatever it takes to enjoy this special time with your DD and DGD without any interference.
PS: knowledge is power. I would never have let my inlaws know this far in advance.
I am wondering if your son-in-law actually had ulterior motives for opening his mouth.
If I am remembering right, your son-in-law seems to have a very hard time establishing boundaries with his parents. I would have been VERY specific when I made the plans that this was to be an exclusive trip, and that MUMM was the word.
The cost for the kennel would have been worth it! Or, perhaps there is somebody else who could have been asked to care for the pets. I would not have excluded MIL from the trip and then asked her for the favor.

) that we're going to do what we want to do (and that we expect them to do what they want to do - sometimes that may be together, sometimes it may be separately). Vacation costs too much (and the time is too valuable) to spend a lot of time figuring out "what everybody wants to do".
