Can my 11 (almost 12) year old DS wear a nice pair of dress shorts to the evening meals on the ship?

I would say it would be ok for dining in Parrot Cay and Animator's Palate. However, I made my ds (12 yo) put on khaki's for dining in Triton's. This time we will be on Magic 7 day and he WILL dress up with the rest of us, if just for the experience of being fancy.LOL
I don't think they are strict on enforcing the dress code with children, but it is a nice experience for them to dine in "dressy fashion" once in a while...JMHO

We cruised last year when my DS was 11...we had him wear dockers to dinner at night with a collared shirt...on Tropical night and on the first night of the cruise, he wore a pair of stone colored "Climber Pants" (Land's End)..on Tropical night he wore a tropical shirt with them, and on the first night of the cruise, which is casual in all restaurants, he wore it with another button down shirt...personally, I wouldn't have felt right with him in shorts on any night but Tropical...

DS10.5 will be wearing button/collar shirts and pants, black sneakers to the dining room. However, his dad (DH) may be wearing shorts w/his collar shirts. ("It's my vaca too and Im already being good enough to go on this cruise and not go on a gambling ship" - never mind that it is paid for through our DVC!) 1st, 2nd and tropical nights DS might wear shorts.
DS is renting a tux for formal & semi-formal nights. I have a button down collar shirt, black pants and black sneakers for DS for formal night. On semi-formal night DH & I are hopefully doing Palos. DS will get pizza that night and boy is he looking forward to it.

On both previous cruises our DS (10 & 12) wore khakis and various button down shirts. Of course within about 5 minutes of dinner he was back into his shorts.

He is now 15 and is "considering" a tux for formal nights on our upcoming 7 day! Things do change;)

My DS 12 has worn long pants except for Tropical night on the Eastern, and Mexicali night on the Western. Shorts were not out of place on those nights.

Of course, he couldn't wait to wear his tuxedo on both of the formal nights.

Dockers and gym shoes with a polo shirt with collar, but I don't think that is the answer you were hoping to hear, is it?

I followed the recommended guidelines and put my 11 and 12 year old DSs in khaki pants and collared shirts in all restaurants. We were on the 4-day. I realize on the 7 day there is a "tropical night", which I have heard is OK for shorts.
