$12 Wine tasting Question

We are leaving Saturday for the 7 day Eastern. We are just now thinking about doing the wine tasting...anyone out there done it? Is it worth the money? Do you remember when it was and how you signed up for it? We love Disney pins...do they still give you a Disney wine pin? Thanks!!

This session is targeted for wine newbies. People who enjoy an occasional glass of wine but really don't know about wine etiquette or what to look for when selecting a bottle of wine.

Wine hobbiests would be bored.

Dave is correct...definitely aimed at the novice set. Hubby and I are total novices and we really enjoyed it and learned a lot. I've heard from people who are more experienced and who didn't gain anything from it. But it has really hooked my hubby on enjoying a glass of wine with his dinner when on the ship or at fancy restaurants now (myself, I still stick to the frou-frou drinks).

I did this in January and loved it! It's also a nice way to visit Palo's if you can't get ressies! We did indeed receive a nice pin- all in all I would do this again just to see Alfredo open a champagne bottle with a table knife!!

It was in Palo when you did it? That would be nice. It was in Sessions Lounge when I did it. Also very nice.

Yes it was in Palo's..... I just figured it was always there. Maybe it depends on how many participants they have..... there were maybe 15 or so people when we did it.... and we were served a nice little cheese and cracker snack too!

On the 3/23/02 Disney Magic cruise, it was in Sessions Lounge. They did not give pins to the participants.

As Dave wrote, this wine tasting is "targeted for wine newbies." So it's perfect for people who don't really know the difference between a Riesling and a Pinot Grigio.

Although I'm well past the wine newbie stage, I still enjoyed the wine tasting on the ship for several reasons. The presenters were entertaining. It was a good chance to sample six wines from the wine list. (I ended up ordering a bottle of one of them at dinner another night because I liked it a lot.) And it was a ralaxing way to spend an hour during an afternoon at sea.

I signed up at Guest Services on Saturday for the tasting on Sunday.

I agree that it's not just for newbies. We are not pros but certainly not newbies to wine either and still had a nice time at the wine tasting. We enjoyed the opportunity to try different wines and learn someone elses opinions and viewpoints on wine and wine tasting. And seeing a champagne bottle opened using the base of a champagne glass was very cool.

Ours was in Sessions, as well and we too, received a pin.

Were we the only cruise that had the wine tasting in Palo's?? How many people were at the other tastings??

We do the wine tasting every time we are onboard. Some have been held in Sessions and some have been in Palo's. I don't know how they decide where to have it though. I guess if it's a day at sea it's in Sessions because of the afternoon tea in Palo's.

we enjoyed the wine tasting on both our cruises. Both were held in Palos. When we go in Jan 2002...we will do it again - may rethink if this is not in Palos - any excuse to spend time in this lovely area. Yes, this is targeted toward people that are "new to wine"...but, on both trips we tasted some different wines.
Watching a bottle of champaine opened with a butter knife is really cool.

I'd like to see Disney add a couple of intermediate level wine tasting sessions -- perhaps featuring lesser known grape varieties or comparing California and French wines made from the same grape variety. Again, the tastings should be wines on the DCL wime list so that we could order the ones we like best with our dinners.
