12/6/08 Eastern ~ ***CURRENT ROSTER pg 68, post # 1007!

I would like to know which night is which in the dining rooms? I assume that St. Maarten day will still be Pirate night but which nights are formal, semi-formal and so on?

On our last cruise, our blessed coordinator managed to put together everyone in the dining room on the same rotation. She spoke directly with the dining assignment coordinator.... The entire early seating sat together - I think it was like 16 tables... and the late, there were a whole bunch of us in the vicinity of each other as well. We've always gotten tables for 4 in the past without even requesting it. This time, we want a table for 8 that we'll share with Tana's family.

For now until I hear differently, I'm going by the chart on that other Disney cruise site. This didn't format very well, but I hope you get the idea!

I'm definitely hoping that we get the rotation I request, or I'll be down there requesting it when we board. :) I really do wish they told you ahead of time, it would make Palo planning so much easier!

I had read that too, but in that thread they had mentioned that pirate night was night 3, at sea (the 2nd night in the same restaurant) and the room specific menus were nights 1,2 &4. Again, who knows what will happen by Dec. :confused3 I think we might have to wait for her to come out of drydock then start grilling all the eastern peeps we can as soon as they are back lol.

we like parrot cay's menu best as well (of course we're just going on reading the info, not experience lol). We made some pretty specific requests with the ol' TA (of course we're not the type to think twice if none of it happens) but we figured why not request it? So, we requested a table for 4, and also if our rotation could start with parrot cay. So, we'll let you know when all is said and done if we end up getting 1, both, or none lol. No biggie either way, but we figured it was worth a shot. When I had to call DCL for an unrelated matter i just asked "do you show any requests on our reservation?" and was told, Oh yes you have requested a dining table for 4 and for your rotation to start with Parrot Cay. Nothing is guaranteed but we will try our best for you." I was shocked it was actually in there, so we'll see. ;)

Joy, I'm just going with my suit pants, dress shirt, and tie on formal night. I know I won't be the best dressed, but from reading reports I shouldn't be the worst either. I know what you mean (well not about the dress, but about being uncomfortable lol). I just cant see dragging a tux along, taking up the packing space, AND being uncomfortable all night in 80-90 weather. Soooo, tell DH there'll be a least one guy without a jacket on, so he wouldnt be the only one. :rotfl:

Welcome to the new peeps (sorry didnt see your post sneak in there earlier) :thumbsup2

You know, DH has been a bit concerned with formal night. I think the last time he wore a tie was for my brother's wedding and I believe it was "accidently" left in the Seattle hotel room...huh, funny how that worked out. I convinced him that all he had to do was wear a pair of slacks a dress shirt and tie. Glad to hear someone else will be wearing the same. Now I just have to convince him to dress up for pirate nightpirate: At least I have a few more months to convince him. :rotfl2:

Anyone else thinking of a bit of golf? My wife and son will probably hit the beach, but this looks like a nice way to spend a few hours!
Hi there! My husband golfed Mahogany Run last time and loved it - will probably do so again - if you're looking for a golfing buddy...

okay...this is my 2nd cruise w/ disney. i'm on late dinners but have no clue as to what this "rotation" means. do you mean 1st night at animators, 1 night at a diff rest and so on?? whats it all mean lol??

Yep, exactly. I just take what I get. Doesn't much matter where we are as long as we're on the ship!

LOL, my DH is of the opinion that jackets are useless since most men take them off as soon as they sit down to eat anyway. Yup, we probably will pack nice slacks, maybe even black Dockers, shirt and tie only... For my DH, that IS dressed up!

I was thinking that we might actually skip formal night this time around and do Palo instead... Not that I don't LOVE dressing up, but I was enormously uncomfortable all night in my formal gown and I am willing to be my DH was not excited about his monkey suit either.

We're likely to skip formal noght too.... we'll be on the road travelling for about 6 weeks in total and need all the space we can get in that luggage, so the suit just wont make it into the luggage....

not sure what we'll do that night instead, but we won't be getting dolled up

I'm glad to hear he enjoyed it, I'm looking forward to it and I'll definitely be booking myself on that tour.... ( insert golfing smiley here )

That's a relief Joy! That's the most formal my DH will get, so we're in the clear! :woohoo: He wouldn't even wear a jacket for our wedding! :goodvibes

The cruise will be here before we know it! :beach:

:welcome: Welcome princssdisnygina!

So I had a slow day at work and was able to research St. Thomas shore excursions :)

I think we're going to take a taxi over to Coki Bay, spend some time on the beach and snorkel, and then visit Coral World and take the semi-submersible boat ride. Hopefully there is enough time to do all that and still make it back to the ship on time. There is a shore excusion for Coral World and the semi-submersible, but I'd like to spend some time on the beach as well...

For St. Maarten, I'm thinking of hitting the beach first thing with the kids and then taking them back to the ship and maybe doing a little shopping with DH.

Wow, I can't believe how fast time is going!!! It was such a long time away when we booked our cruise. We are going to celebrate my 40th (12/5), I'm a firm believer in birthweeks, not just a day ;) Most of my friends are going to Vegas, but I couldn't imagine a better way to spend it than with the "Magic" of Disney and my best friend, dh:lovestruc .

It would be fun to get a group together for a birthday party so everyone can celebrate "good times" together, birthday or not ;) party:

Happy Planning :)

I absolutely don't believe in birth weeks. I believe in birth months :cool1: :cool1: My hair salon sends me a birthday card at the end of July and the celebration begins. It continues through my birthday at the end of August, unless I have something planned then or in September. One year we celebrated until the end of September :thumbsup2

Congrats on 40! I'll be there myself in August.

Congrats on 40! I'll be there myself in August.

My brother was born on my 3rd birthday, and my mother was always big into birthdays, so we always said that the holidays "started in September" (our birthdays being Sept 27. ;)

So I completely agree!

Heck, my husband's birthday is Sept 26, our wedding anniversary is Oct 27, and our dating anniversary is Nov 19, so we just consider Disney's celebrating us with the Food and Wine Festival ;)

How exciting to celebrate your 40th with a cruise, Michele!!

Wow.

Well, first of all... as far as birthdays... I personally believe (although I will only be celebrating 39 years shortly after the cruise) that when you hit a milestone, you should have a birthYEAR.

OK, that aside, I want to thank you all for the overwhelming amount of information I've been trying to absorb. It seems as if there is a lot more planning to this whole cruise thing than I ever thought! Boarding, documentation, meal planning, DRESS CODES! My goodness! I'm feeling a little, ok, a LOT... overwhelmed, AND with the two kids on my own (well, my mom will be there, too, but still...) for the first time....

I'm reading and re-reading... my sister and her family have done the weekend cruise, so I am relying on her.... and YOU ALL... for help! :)

Hmmm..... formal wear..... guess I should just stop EATING right NOW....
ROFL:cool1:

ps.... to the kind lady who private messaged me... the board won't allow mw to reply (seems I'm too new! LOL)
Thank you so much for your message! I was hoping to maybe meet someone "like me" on the board. I'm at a loss at the loving comments from my sister and Mom about "the singles" that will be there and how I can leave the kids with my mom to "go out and meet people" at night.
Right now, at this point in my life... Not!
Although my 7 year old asked me to go out and "buy" her a new Daddy.
Siiiggghhh.....
The kids are not really excited at anything other than the plane trip and the day we are spending before the cruise at Disney World... my 4 year old "Princess" wants to see "her" castle. :wizard:
If I do the math right, one of your sons will be about 7? Maybe he can pal around with Susan, my 7 year old! :)
Thanks for the travel tips. I didn't think about that, figuring if I had a passport, I was all set. I'll make sure to bring those things, as well.
This will actually be my girls first trip to anywhere other than NJ or MA. ;)
Take care, and I hope to chat more soon!

Only three more posts and you can send PMs :goodvibes :goodvibes

You know, it occurred to me to be an obnoxious brat, but....
lol
;)

OK.... I have a question...
the "pin thing?"
I am reading about trading pins, and I know my girls will love to get in on the action. What can I expect to pay for pins on board? What do the kids pin them to? How does one go about trading?
And, ummm.... :rolleyes1
Do adults get to get in on the action?

ALSO... I saw someone mention the pirate night. Do you recommend bringing appropriate attire? Or is there stuff to buy on the cruise (what a stupid question.)
What exactly, besides formal, is the dress (or costume?) code for the cruise?
:dance3:

Okay, so remember the deal I got on our flights? (Roundtrip Sacramento to Orlando, 2 for free with Delta SuperSaver Skymiles and 2 cash for about $250 plus taxes).

Anyhow... the flight times changed AGAIN (this always happens to us on every trip and I'm used to it by now), so I call Delta to reconfirm the flight change and while I've got him on the phone, I notice that our layover is now 2 hours long, and I asked if there was anything with a shorter layover.

He finds one that leaves an hour earlier so we only have an hour layover. Switches everything over, all cool, and I ask him about the seat assignments since we're on 2 separate itineraries... I need to make sure we're seated near each other if possible. He said they were together and rattled off SINGLE DIGIT seat numbers... you know what that means...

I didn't say anything at the time but I just logged on and it looks like we're in FIRST CLASS on our 1st leg and Business Class on our 2nd leg. Is this possible? I'm almost certain they'll either figure it out or bump us (December is a long ways away!) but I'm just basking in the possibility that we'll fly first class on the way to Orlando. I s'pose it's too much to ask that they won't change the flights again and nobody else will take a 2nd glance at these seat assignments.

I feel sorry for this poor agent, who I'm sure didn't quite know what he was doing. Delta can't afford to have its agents giving away First Class seats to passengers purchasing seats using air miles and Super Saver ones at that! How crazy would it be to have 4 first class seats for under $600?
