12/6/08 Eastern ~ ***CURRENT ROSTER pg 68, post # 1007!

I have never done the fish extender before. On our last cruise someone in our group made Christmas stockings with our family name on them and we hung them on the fish. It looked great and it was a great place for other cruisers to leave "gifts" during the week. It was so much fun to come back to the room each time and see if anyone left you something new - the kids really loved that. :) I don't think anything has been discussed here just yet about this kind of thing but it would be nice for everyone to have something that people could leave items in.

I really like the stocking idea since we'll be cruising that time of year. I'm totally into hanging a stocking up by our door!! I'll have to think of gift possibilities, sdefinitely something Alaskan!! Thanks Becka!!:)

The gift thing on our last cruise seemed insane. :scared1: We literally came back to something new everytime we came back to our stateroom. We had magnets, pirate stuff (tatoos, beach balls, jewelry, etc..), little toys for the kids, keychains, stickers, personalized pencils, bracelets, candy, etc.. I have already been researching what to do this cruise. I think I want to do the magnets for everyone. They looked great on the stateroom doors and once we came home we put them on our refrigerator and they are nice souveniers that we actually use and see everyday.

We are totally into the stocking thing...well I am anyway. DH thinks I am insane  I am not sure he realized just what he was getting into when he said to go ahead and plan a WDW/DCL vacation. I bet the kids will just love getting little gifts throughout the cruise. Great idea  Becka!

Oooh and another reason to be crafty and go shopping...

On our last cruise Lisa made the stockings for everyone but it took up a lot of room for her and it was a big hassle for her to get them to everyone that first day. Maybe it would be best if everyone did bring their own and decorated it how they like unless someone wants to volunteer to make them for everyone. I think my kids would love making our own.

I love the stocking idea! We have done the fish extenders before and will on our next cruises, but this is more appropriate for Christmas!

I think my kids would love making our own.

Same here. They are already talking about ideas. :goodvibes I think you are also right that it would take the burden off of a single person to make, pack, and distribute them. Plus, it will be neat to see what everyone comes up with and how creative they get. :thumbsup2

Stop all this talk about being 'crafty'. Check out my tag....I don't do 'crafty'. :lmao:

Well I wanted to wish everyone a Happy Seward's Day!! What's that you say...what is Seward's Day?? Well here in Alaska on the last Monday in March we celebrate the signing of the Alaska Purchase treaty which actually happened on March 30, 1867. It is named for then-Secretary of State William H. Seward, who negotiated the purchase from Russia. Now you know.

If you work for the State of Alaska or several city governments you actually get this day off as a paid holiday. I work for the city of Juneau and hence I get the day off. Pretty sweet deal huh? That means I get to stay home and post on the dis...even better.

Enjoy the day, I know I will. :)

Happy Seward's Day to our Alaskan friends! Glad someone gets the day off :goodvibes

Glad somebody is off on this gloomy monday. ;)

Gloomy you say? well yes, you see that's winter here in the wonderful toxic waste state of Southern NJ. We're about 5 miles from Philadelphia, just on the other side of the Delaware, more or less. And winters in NJ, well I truly believe the first line of the song California dreamin was written with NJ in mind. Yep, all the leaves are brown, and the sky is grey. Actually, the trees are bare now, the brown only lasts until November or so. :rolleyes1

I need color. I need sun, sand, warmth lol........come on DECEMBER! oh wait, after that week, I'm back in NJ winter again.....ok, now I'm depressed. :lmao:

Enjoy your day off. :thumbsup2

Just wanted to say hi. I haven't posted in awhile. I been busy packing my mom and bringing her to live w/ us for a bit while her new place is being renovated. Even though I haven't posted I still read almost daily. Kinda sick...it's like an addiction, this board. I have a question/favor to ask... In one on these forums (main dis crusie one) there is a download of things you pack for the cruise. I downloaded this many ways but for some reason it never opens for me:headache: i tried mcro/excel doesnt work. IFFFFFF any of you already downloaded and actually were able to open this list can you copy and paste it here or email it to me directly? I'd appreciate this very much and I'm sure many would find this useful too :worship: Another thing I want to bring up....I'm so accustomed to the north (new york) in the winter (dec) most ppl don't wear light pastel shades... I'm feeling a little odd thinking of putting these colors in my packing. This is the norm for vacations in this month...the colors right?
Last cruise we flew in on the days of sailing without any problems. This cruise I'm thinking of comin in on friday instead. I would guess I couldnt use the transfers and the cruise line takin my suitcases from the airport...am I right? I wanted to stay at a hotel right by the port, any suggestions? Grrr, the kids are calling me. I'll ask more later lol. thanks alot for any help.

Hello everybody!!!

Hows it going? I've caught up on my reading. I think the stocking idea is great. We should all do it. It would be major fun.

Another month down and alot more to go. I hope it goes by fast. And to all those others who say this board is an addiction. It is. We're all addicted. :rotfl: So join the club. Anyway. Welcome to any new comers. Our group is growing. Oh yes. Oh my gosh. I almost forgot.

MY MOM FINALLY GOT ALL PLANS SET!!!! :cool1:

I was jumping up and down yesterday. We've got all our plans set!!!! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: I'm excited.

Linda: We're thinking of coming in a day early. Actually I'm pretty sure we are. I don't know all the details. I'll let you know. But it wouldn't be a bad idea to come in a day early. My mom's good a looking up all that stuff. So she could give a you a few suggestions and I'll pass them along.

Well I'll be around most of the weekend. I'm so excited  Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

I don't fly but if I did I could not handle the stress of flying in the day before. Travel days are always exhausting and I would hate to start my cruise so tired. Also (especially with it being December) I would be so worried about weather. If an ice/snow storm is being predicted for the day we leave we will just arrange to leave town early in our car but if we had fight plans we couldn't do that. I know many people do fly in the day before and you do save the hotel costs but I know that I personally just couldn't do it.

We stayed at the Radisson on our last trip we were not overly impressed. The new Country Inn and Suites looked nice and we have also thought about staying at Ron Jon. I am leaning more towards CIS just because I don't think there will be anytime for us to enjoy the better amenities at RJ but we will have to see. I won't make our reservations until probably August/September.
