"But the sea, the sea in the darkness calls"
We woke to find the Wonder pulling into Port Canaveral. Captain Henry had indeed made up some time. We were supposed to have a 6:30am breakfast but that had been rescheduled to 7:15am. We said good-by to Rita and Trevis and Anthony. We had said good-by to Ajay the night before.
They asked us all to go to the Walt Disney Theater to wait for debarkation. Even though we were at the port, Customs still had to clear the ship. We watched some Disney cartoons and played a trivia game with one of the CMs. I am very proud of the pin that I won. OK, I was lucky. It was an easy question and the CM was standing right in front of me.
I got to shake Captain Henry's hand as we were leaving. I was a little awestruck (he is one strong man) and I don't know much about ships and sailing, but I wanted to make some small talk to be polite. I did want to know about the small ships that go out to the cruise ships. I asked Captain Henry, "Do you have any dinghys on board?" He smiled and said, "I think the only dingy on the ship is leaving now." They must have a comedian class at that Swedish Sailor School. Just kidding. He's actually very serious.
We got off the ship at around 9:20am. Mark, our driver from Happy Limo, was there waiting for us even though we were an hour late.
The only other cruise I have taken is with the Roman Galley Cruise Line (RGCL). They're an adventure cruise line. Their brochure said "Enjoy fun activities while meeting new and interesting friends." I wound up sitting on a splintery wooden bench between two big, sweaty guys pulling on this big oar. Very good for the abs, though. And their "Rhythms-of-the-Sea Orchestra" was some guy beating on a drum that we had to row in time with. It wasn't bad until the Captain's nephew wanted to go water skiing. In their favor, they did have a lovely selection of gruel. Their excursion was this nice shopping trip where we ran around grabbing stuff. I kept trying to give the shopkeepers my credit card, but they really got into the fun and kept hacking at me with a sword. The locals had their own boat and the race was on! Their Captain must not have been very good at steering because he ran right into us. Well, the big, wooden snout of their boat poked into our boat right in front of me. I gave them low marks on "Safety" on the comment card. I recommend DCL, instead.
Final Thoughts - The ship is gorgeous and the crew is wonderful. There are a lot more details I could have put into my trip reports, but a big part of the fun is discovering things for yourself. I'm not a rich man, so I did a lot of thinking before shelling out the money for this cruise. It was worth it. Take lots of pictures.
"So in the ocean of life we pass and speak one another". Have a great voyage!
