12/10/05 ~ Anyone else cruising.....??

Hi Donnaksmj -
Wanted to let you know that my nephew Nico (turning 4 the first week of December) will be onboard with us -- so perhaps your son will have a playmate afterall!

Oh great....I already told Jonny his friend Nico is meeting him on the ship! :wave2: Jonny turns 4 the end of Nov..perfect!

The next update comes in at 5pm...am anxiously waiting to hear.

TAMPA - Ever so slightly, Category 4 Hurricane Wilma seems to be slowly making a much anticipated turn to the northwest that may take it out of the Caribbean Sea and into the Gulf of Mexico.

Earlier today, Wilma's battering winds decreased somewhat.

Max Mayfield, Director of The National Hurricane Center in Miami, fears some Florida residents will ignore the storm because it is no longer a top-scale Category 5.

"Don't minimize this," he said.

The record-breaking monster storm is expected to strike somewhere along Florida's Gulf Coast this weekend.

But, the storm has proven uniquely unpredictable with its unprecedented intensification early Wednesday and seemingly aimless path all week long.

Governor Jeb Bush declared a state of emergency Thursday.

I am watching the Weather Channel right now. Poor Yucatan; looks like they are going to get a direct hit soon. However, as it travels over land, hopefully it will weaken enough to be no more than a tropical depression or less when it hits the Florida coast....

On a lighter note, should I get 2 or 3 spa treatments on board? Are people doing those door magnet things? Are we doing anything special for the Sailaway? Who's buying the first round in Diversions? Who's watching football with me?

Oh yeah and Angie, I think by the time we cruise, we'll see the Trojans will have 1 defeat...to the Bruins on Dec 3rd.... :teeth:

Jordan, the Bruins do have me a little worried. :cheer2: They are looking pretty good and boy would they LOVE to be the ones to knock of the Trojans! First beer is on me if they do! :teeth:

Lisa wants to meet by the Mickey Pool at 3 for the first Dis meet. I think we can do that, but DH and I won't plan on hanging around there too long as we have no little ones. We are thinking we might get another Dis meet together on Deck 10 above the Goofy Pool around 3:30. That will give those of us with older kids or no kids a chance to visit for 30 min or so before we have to go to drill. Deck ten overlooking the Port is kind of a quiet place to gather to get aquainted. Also could be where you collect that first beer, IF the Bruins pull of the big upset. Or maybe I could get one of those really cool red sail away drinks. DH and I also like to be on Deck 10 overlooking the festivities at sail away and would love to have any of you that are not down in the midst of the dancing join us. :Pinkbounc

Oh, door magnets. YES! For sure we will have a few of those with us. ::MickeyMo

And spa treatments....the more the better is my thought. :goodvibes We will be in the Rainforest 6 of the 7 days. Probably not the first day. We have bought the pass the last 2 cruises, but will have to check the price. You get in for $8 the day you have a treatment, so we will see if 5X15 + 8 is less than the daily package.

So Angie, you were not the one in Oregon who won - too bad, I told Amy you were almost like family to all of us on the board now, and I am sure would have been glad to cut us in on the action! :earsboy:

We will most probably be on the dance floor during sail away, as my little girl LOVES to dance  - and loves to see her big old dad try to dance with her.

Jordan, on the last cruise Amy and I tried to catch some of Monday Night Football, and I will try to be down there sometime . . . but even as much as I love sports, when I am on that ship, I often try to do all the things I can't do at home - so I don't watch as much sports as I normally would.

Believe it or not, Amy and I have NEVER tried the spa, or any of the treatments or massages . . . Maybe some day.

John

John,

I hear you on sitting in a bar on a cruise when you can do it at home. However, ever since I started going back to church (my dad, grandad,2 uncles, cousin and sister-in-law are/were all pastors), I never get to watch football on Sundays except maybe the ESPN game. So this will be a good opportunity to watch some football..and maybe if I am lucky a hockey game. Cleveland plays Cincy that Sunday if that can tempt you at all........

Jordan,

As long as nothing else is going on that day terribly important, I will be there for at least part of the second battle of Ohio. I really lucked out this year, both Sundays that we are going to be gone (during and after the cruise) the Browns are on the road . . .

Then we play the hated Steelers at home on Christmas Eve, and the even MORE hated Ravens at home on New Year's day. I'm trying not to think about how cold I will be in that stadium after a week in warm weather on a cruise. I'm going to layer, and layer, and layer, until I look like the Michelin man!

John

No worries John. I understand that cruise time is family time..make it when you can. Since I will probably be the only single person on the cruise and don't have any hard plans with my relatives, I will have alot of free time on my hands.....thank God.

John, it is the absolute truth that if we HAD been that Oregon family that hit the big time, one of our plans was to see to it that all our DIS friends had a really good time on this cruise. But, alas....we will just have to stay in steerage like previously planned. :bitelip:

What do you do with magnets? What kind of magnets? Where do you get them? I have not heard of using magnets on a cruise. :confused3
:wave2: Diana

Yes I would like to know about the magnets too please.

Also there was a post about the tip envelopes that could be downloaded.

Any other tips too please.

Kirsty

Not sure if you have cruised before or not, but the doors to your stateroom on the Ship are made of ferrous (magnetic) metal, so magnets stick. Lots of us go to office max, staples, etc. and buy the magnetic sheets that you can buy that are magnet on one side, and printable on the other side.

People then design their own magnets for their doors - it helps the little ones find your room more easily, announces who you are to the world walking by, and most of us also denote that we are part of the DIS. Also makes it easy for friends who may forget the stateroom number to leave you notes or messages at your stateroom.

If you want to see an example, send me a pm with your email, and I will email you our magnet design from the last cruise (which I will probably just modify a bit for this one).

John

Just booked!!! Sailing Cat 5 GTY, not sure what stateroom number yet. We'll have 2nd seating. This will be the 3rd time I take the Eastern... was debating giving the Western one more try, but looks like Wilma is going to do a number on Key West and Cozomel, so I guess it's the Eastern again!

Looking forward to this sailing... I love DCL at Xmas time, and I absolutely love the Eastern!!!

See you all then.. I have a lot of catching up to do on this thread!

Door magnets. Last year we had 3 different door magnet signs. We had one for welcome aboard that we left up a couple of days, then changed to the pirate theme one and then on Christmas eve we put out the Christmas one. They are fun to design and fun to look at others design as you go past the rooms. Most who have them are Disers. :disrocks:
