12/10/05 ~ Anyone else cruising.....??

Hey! You have made this fun for all of us. :) It doesn't always work though. Yesterday this thing was running way too slowly & kept kicking me out. Today it kept telling me that the server was too busy...try again later. LOL!

Hi Cristi -

Sorry so late - at least for us out East. We had a rally tonight for our school issue that will be on the ballot in May, and Amy had to go to calling hours for a co-worker's brother so Sophia and I rode along. I swear that every night by the time I sit down to catch up it is almost time for bed, and I cannot get anything done!

As to your budget question, here is how it worked for us last year. Your DH can drive up and drop you off, along with the luggage. Just make sure of ONE thing - that you have all the documents and paperwork AND that whatever credit card you fill in for charging purposes is in your posession!

Don't wait for him outside - it may take up to 45 minutes for him to get back. That's how long it took me last year. There will be lots of cruisers on all the ships dropping off cars, and you take a number for transportation back to the ship. Most people do NOT drop off their families, so the vans fill up quickly. They told me before the number system that two men almost got into a fistfight as to who was there first!

Amy and I ended up with a big Snafu last year, as I had the credit card that was on the doc's, and she could not fully check in. We were running late that day anyway, coming from WDW, and I was stuck behind several families at the Budget place, waiting for my ride back. Even with three vans it seemed to take forever. We missed seeing Lisa and Mike at the port, and ended up boarding a bit later than we are used to.

Your DH will still have to go and check in with the agents at the port when he gets to the terminal. I assume it will work the same even with the new system - but they did not have it in place last year.

I am considering NOT doing it that way this year, since our family has a reservation on the Radisson shuttle along with Lisa, but we will play it by ear that morning. We may just turn in the car early, and ride the Rad shuttle.

can someone tell me what the double dip cruise is? i'm very confused. thanks

I vote for turning the car in the night before. We will have the van if anything is needed. :) Nonstressful is the way to go. :)

Goofyfreak, a double dip cruise is two stops at Castaway Cay. This is NOT a DD cruise.

Thanks for the info!!! I think I'm really going to love this web site. I hope I get enough time to play online here and learn alot. With 3 kids it's a little hard to get a lot of computer time!!!

Goofyfreak, you may want to skip thru the main cruise forum for some general information. If you are looking for port specific info like excursions, the trip reports forum has alot of firsthand accounts from fellow DISers that can help you find the right outing for your family. :)

John.... Thanks for the info about the rental car idea. DH thinks that we should just all go turn in the car and ride the shuttle over, but I think it would be easier for him to do it..... that way I can be at the DIS meet in the terminal ;)

I can't believe that I missed 2300. All I did was leave long enough to get my hair cut and hilighted. :confused3 Maybe I will be around for 2400.

Cristi,

It was frustrating enough for me to wait for the shuttle back, with Amy calling every 5 minutes asking where I was. I would NOT have wanted her and Sophia waiting with me, with all of our luggage, waiting for that shuttle, with the ship so close by. Amy BTW agrees, as frustrating as it was waiting for me, and with the screwup with the credit card, it was better at the terminal than it would have been with me at the budget place!

BTW - our flight leaves at 10:30 on Friday morning (the 9th), EST. I am wondering who will be the last ones out to turn off the lights on our thread. Will it be us?

We are driving down friday morning leaving about 8am. so you will be after us!

I think I will probably be the last one to post on our thread, since I only live 45 mins from the port! Woohoo... tomorrow I am cruising!! Not on the Magic, just my mini 3 day cruise!! Yippie!! :teeth:  :teeth:

While reading through trip reports, I noted that one group of Dis'ers used lime green t-shirts or wrist bands to identify themselves?

Is lime green the official Dis'er color? lol. What is up with that? Anything like that planned for this cruise?

OH don't tease us like that!

Yup, Disdawg,

Lime green is the official DIS color. You can, I think, even buy stuff somewhere here with the lime green mickey. I don't remember how it got started. Several years ago I posted a thread about my experience in trying to find lime green ribbon before a trip to WDW at JoAnn's fabrics, and all the weird looks I got from the old ladies in there.

I usually have a lime green ribbon on my fanny pack, or behind a pin on my hat. I must say though, I hardly ever see anyone with it in the parks - lots though on the cruise.

BTW - some posts back, Vanessa is making some kind of giant Mickey head out of plywood or something and painting it lime green to carry around the port so we can all find each other.
