Angie - I don't know how I missed this. I am so sorry . . .
Oooooooh . . . not looking good Marielle. Sorry.
I have not been on the boards much guys, but thought I should stop in here with an update. I have had the month from H@@@.
Amy is in the Philippines again until Wednesday. Last week, Sophia was on break, and I was home alone as she visited her aunt, but I was sick all week, and worn out from too much work.
Then on Monday I had to take my brother to the doctor - he was finally in such bad shape that he could not refuse. He had extreme anemia and had to be taken to the ER. After 5 units of blood, and lots of tests, he has a softball sized mass on his colon.
Tomorrow morning he is having surgery to remove it along with part of his colon. We are hopeful it was caught in time and has not spread. I will know after the surgery.
On the way to see him at the hospital on Wednesday, with Sophia, I was rear-ended at a stoplight. I got out to survey the damage, and the young kid driving the other car motioned for me to pull over into a parking lot. I got his plate, shook my head no, and as I called 911, he pulled around me and took off. They traced the car to the middle of town, and the owner (a female) said no one should have been driving it. (Right).
My Buckeyes did win the NIT though!
I finally arrived home today. It was not a fun trip, but I did get to take a side trip to downtown Philadelphia yesterday morning. We took a quick trip to see the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall on the way to the airport. Very impressive! Both my uncle and I loved seeing where our freedom began.
John, I will probably not catch up on the other thread, but rather just jump in and carry on. Is there any update on your brother?![]()
Not much time to do anything other than check in quickly and say good morning. Thank you to all of you once again for your prayers and thoughts.
They removed a large portion of my brother's transverse colon yesterday, along with part of the small intestine where it had crossed over. They also removed his appendix. It was a fairly large tumor. It was cancerous of course, but his liver looked good, although the lymph nodes looked enlarged according to the surgeon. In his estimation it was a 3-b cancer.
He will be in the hospital 7-10 days, and then off work (he is a teacher) for 6 weeks so this ends the school year for him. After about 4 weeks they will start chemo, and he has a good chance of full recovery, but with cancer you never know. He was in surgical ICU all day yesterday and sedated because of all the weight he carries.
Thanks again everyone.
Hi guys.
Not too much time to post or catch up. Sorry for not acknowledging what I am probably missing. Busy today running between the hospital and my dad's. My brother is out of ICU, feeling a lot of pain, but cracking jokes, so I am happy about his state of mind.
Two more days until Amy comes home, so I am counting the hours.
Today's music of the day for all my old friends . . .
How about Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band from the Motor City?
One of my favorite songs "Against the Wind" . . .
And for a second from the old era . . .
Hall and Oates "You Make My Dreams Come True".
I've been escaping in music every chance I get to take my mind off of things.
Hope everyone is well, and having a great day - the weather has been gorgeous here, and Spring has finally come!
Angie, while you were in the historic area, you were just a few minutes from the hospital where Trey works (but we live just west of the city, so still 20-30 minutes away with traffic).
Hi everyone.
Just a quick post to let you know Amy is home safe and sound.
We went to the hospital after her flight got in tonight.
No new news on my brother, but the nurse told me he is improving. They have him so doped up on meds every time I see him, that I don't know if he is intentionally cracking jokes, or just loopy.
Tomorrow or the next day we should hear about the pathology on the cancer they took out.
Four more weeks from Friday until we leave . . . I can hardly believe it!
John was at the hospital all night with his brother. Alex came home to stay with him, as the Dr said that family should come in as they didn't know if Manuel would make it through the night. His blood pressure had dropped and was not responding to any medication to bring it up. They were pumping him full of fluids and other medications but nothing was happening. When I left to come home to Sophia his blood pressure was 80/42 and that was an artery read. The Dr said they believe that it was a massive infection and they were running a battery of test to see what it was. I know when I was there they took a lot of blood. John came home at 6:00AM to shower and said that Manuel's body was finally responding, blood pressure was up to 100/something can't remember, he was producing urine and was responding to some verbal commands. He is far from being out of the woods and we still don't know what has caused this downturn. John is headed back as the DR will be in at 8:00Am for rounds. I will join him as soon as Sophia is off to school.
John and family ~ Our prayers are with you.![]()
Hello my friends,
Nothing new to report. Same treatments on my brother, same vital signs. We are encouraged that he is not getting worse, but discouraged that he is not getting any better. He is too weak for them to even do a CAT scan to see if the infection is localized. We decided to come home tonight to get a good night's sleep.
We just keep praying and hoping, and your concern helps us more than you may ever know. He is still fighting, and we are grateful for that.
LOVE your new siggie pictures Becca! Those kids sure are growing up!!!
