With everyone talking about reducing recess and exercise...I had to laugh at the fact that our school implemented a no birthday treat policy this year...no sweets for snacks at lunch...any food sold at school has to follow a very strict ingredient policy...AND yesterday they each came home with pedometers...those little things you hang on your belt to measure how much you walked.

Of course, third and fourth graders are apparently smart enough to figure out how to trick the little thing. I saw my boys sitting there shaking the things to get their numbers higher to bring to school.

Oh yes....we have that BS at our school this year too. :sad2:

Yeah and the pedometer works even better if you wear it while taking riding lessons... ~~~according to DD :rolleyes1

Her school had a week long challenge within each advisory class with them....

Some of the shaking syndrome boys had peds that were reading 20-30K per day. Hopefully the teachers knew better....

My BF moved to Southern California this year and said her kids school did the no birthday treats thing also. The teachers are not allowed to give any sugary treats and they are very health conscious at the school.

It sounds like we need to have a meeting of the "Quiet Guys Who May Not Take the DISBoard Shock Very Well" Club.

"Hi, My name is Andy and I am here because....wo, who are all of those people in the green shirts...I'm outa here!" :scared:

Maybe we should have gotten them a different color. :confused3

Hey guys - quick update before I have to go out tonight.

I found my lions costume..... for $7.99 at toys r us online. Free shipping!!!!

It was the Wizzard of Oz Cowardly Lion costume...

They've got some really cute costumes for really cheap right now. If your kids like dressing up, you should check it out.

oh good Karen, I am so glad you found something without having to sew -- that would be difficult at that last minute. Plus it might cut into your DISing time!

Well here is a math news article that is actually true.

Study: Expectations matter when it comes to math

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Telling women they can't do well in math may turn out be a self-fulfilling statement.

I always warn people NOT to except their child saying they are bad at any subject, escpecially math. Also, NEVER to say that they were bad at math themselves or are a poor speller. Don't give them an out.
