Not only is it hard to have to fire someone but with the ability for anyone to sue for any reason firing marginal to poor employees can be costly. Even when you cross all your t's and dot your i's a suit is almost inevitable.
I am sure. They recently fired one of my DHs coworkers for Drug use. He was caught once and then after getting the all clear from a DR was allowed back at work (I thought he should have been fired right away...but that isn't policy....the whole lawsuit thing.) About 2 weeks after he was back, the guys had another "random" drug screening. He was found using and then he was fired. There are less than 10 employees where my DH works. You just can't do that kind of stuff and not be found out.

I believe that everyone is on the same time zone for GA. :) Kim doesn't watch it. Feel free to talk!

John, more layoffs? My soul is sad for you. We fired a full time programmer today, but it was because of incompetence. So while, I feel badly, necessary evil. Layoffs are just sad. There is always expanding to Utah?

I never feel too bad when I fire someone. My take is always that they fire themselves by their actions or incompetence. Layoffs are another story - they are not fun, and you feel like YOU are ruining someone's life. Most are young family people which is even harder. I know why many companies hire someone to do this kind of dirty work. I want to cry with some of them . . .

Anyway, expansion to Utah is not my call. I'm just another employee.

I know, I said I was going to bed - you guys keep me talking though. Must drag myself to bed!

How many does he have?
One less than he thinks he needs! :lmao: Let's see, 2 electrics, 4 accoustics (one of which is mine that I can't play) and a bass. I think that is it.

hello--- no one wants to talk Grey speak?
I would love to...but I am so tired! I still am not loving the girl that George is seeing. She just isn't right for him. He needs someone who makes him crazy and happy and sparks fly! I was glad he didn't tell her he loved her.

Never been sued, never lost a grievance over a firing, and I have fired so many in 17+ years that I have lost count. As I said, they fire themselves, and I wait until I have it airtight, signed, sealed, and documented, and delivered - or I DON'T do it!

My dad's company just laid 8 guys off yesterday. They laid guys off a few months ago. His company does it a little differently. They were told a few weeks ago that there would be layoffs. They try to get some people to retire and then they have to lay off less people. It is very scary.

Just before my 34yo DS joined us at WDW he had a new tattoo. Here is a picture of it. He is a volleyball fanatic.

It made me think when I saw this tonight about getting a Mickey tattoo this trip. Anyone else have this fantasy or am I the only crazy one?

seeing that brand new still shiny tattoo makes my stomach flip. I have a very very very low tolerance for pain. I think a MIckey tattoo would be neat...but not on me.

We would really like to look at one of the Volvo XC 90 - and Kim I think that would be an excellent choice for you. All-wheel drive, and VERY safe as it is a VOLVO. However, the sticker is a bit too steep for us, even at a lease.

IJohn1
The only problem I have heard with Volvo is that once you get one you can never, ever get rid of it because they just run forever and ever. Or at least that was the case in the 80's - still see alot of those boxy things on the road! No new car ever again, you just have to keep driving that Volvo and cannot justify getting rid of it! Is that still true, John1?

We just have been losing business to WalMart, and other non-union competition. They have the ability to have MUCH lower labor costs because they are new stores, with mostly new (lower wages when new) people, and lower benefit costs. They also have huge new stores, and a perception if not reality of lower price.

Our area is depressed in jobs due to the closing of several plants, so things are tight for lots of people, and they are trying to stretch every dollar. Our latest contract with the union realized what is happening and gave us the opportunity to reduce our Full-time workforce.

Ours were a surprise to everyone. We have not laid anyone off like this in 73 years of doing business.

Hopefully, this will save the other 800 jobs, and that is how I get to sleep at night. I still detest doing it though.

We too make very sure that everything is airtight. The problem is with EEOC cases and any time a lawyer takes the case for pay only if they win. Anytime you go to court you have to at least pay your lawyer even if you win. Sometimes it is cheaper to settle than fight. That is just wrong!

Let me tell you folks - one of the problems at work was dealing with all the leafy hysteria.

What would Popeye do?

Vanessa, did John2 have fun with this problem too?

John1
Popeye would cook it well and can it! Problem solved! :thumbsup2

Having a union does insulate you from most of this . . . and, I am the lawyer - so I guess, as Angie would say, problem solved.

'Night!
