you know, I have been with the hospital for 5 years and in that time frame they have managed to beat me down in the sense of feeling like I am stupid or pretty much not worth anything job related. My gosh, this is such a boost -I mean, who would have thought someone would offer me MORE than I asked for?

I can't wait the reaction tomorrow!

Same thing happened when Dennis left the VA and went to work for WM. The fellow that hired him said, "you are about $20,000 low on your salary request!" He too had his self esteem battered and beat up by that time. Don't look back!

I talked to our HR a couple of years ago about retiring in 2008. So today I called (new person, my previous person in HR retired) and asked for an appt to talk about retiring since it is just a year away. She said, "you can't retire in 2008, you have to be 60." I said, "oh yes I can!" "No, sorry you can't" OY! I needed a paper bag to breath in. Calmed down and explained that I had gotten figures before so I know that I can, but I may have to take a reduction of 5% per year as it would be early retirement. She then said, well you could but with reduction. Whew! What a putz!! Ok, please get the dollar amount figured out for me. Now if OPM approves the VA's request for early out authority then I won't take a reduction, I know that but she did not tell me that. Our authority expired 9/30/06 and we have not gotten word yet from OPM, but I do know that the VA has requested it. So, if OPM (Office of Personnel Management) does not respond to the VA within the next year (not likely) then we may have to eat dog food, but still.....

I started feeling a bit worse and I was starting to have some shortness of breath so DH begged me to go to the doctor today. It turns out I have pneumonia so she gave me a z-pack, an inhaler to help my breathing and some cough syrup with codeine to help me sleep. I hate taking all these meds but hopefully I will start feeling better soon.

Becka, you have a keeper hubby there! Take care of yourself and don't forget it takes a long time to get over, so sleep is GOOD!

Ummm no. I dislike windows. I was much faster when I just typed in commands. I have that stupid problem with perception and the stupid mouse freaks me out. Thats why i have a HUGE monitor at work. Plus if I had a mac, I would have to get a mac at work, then a different server... then the auditors would make me show reciepts... I have decided to never buy anything again at work. I can't even look at another reciept.

I got the job and the offer was $10k more than I make and $3k more than I asked for.....WOW!

So it will take care of childcare increase and the mortgage increase. Yippee!!!

Gotta love those auditors! What makes them enjoy that so much?

You can have a Mac at home now, and also run Windoze on it if you need to . . . the Mac will help you do amazing things with your photos and movies. And if you really want to bring out the inner geek, you can always bring up a terminal window and actually type commands in Unix.

Me, I have always loved using a mouse. I am visually oriented.

lol, I can't even begin to express how much we disliked the food onboard. Loved Cookies BBQ though (maybe that's why we want to do more DDs ). I lost 2 pounds on the cruise because I disliked the food so much, but the chocolate lava cake- that was to die for!

We had a little snow fall tonight. Our school has a 2 hour delay tomorrow...woo hoo!!!!

A couple nights I ordered from the light menu- the steak, it was okay but not how I typically like my steak. The nights I tried to be adventurous I tried beef tenderloin and it tasted like a TV dinner, IMO. All the desserts were really bland and the sauces and the entrees always seemed too heavy to me. I felt sick every night after dinner because of it.

I guess I'm just really picky about the food but DH and I were so excited to get home and have a home cooked meal. Even the burger king we ate at the airport before our flight home tasted gourmet compared to what we ate onboard.

Oh my...you were serious.

Tonight I went to the grocery store and I bought a WHOLE BOX of those raspberry zingers. You know the artifical rasperry twinkies with cream inside? My DD won't even eat them. She took one bite and gave it to me, so I SHARED it with her. Maybe I will go SHARE another with, oh heck, no one. HAHAHAHAHA I feel much better! Don't you just love emotional eating?

Well John is at Disney on Ice, Princess Wishes! He called and said the seats are great, 7 rows back from the ice, and that the girls, Sophia tokk a girlfriend, Dominque, are each enjoying a.... SNOWCONE!!!

I am not there due to having minor surgery (I call it major...anytime they put you under isn't it major???) on Wednesday. I have been off work since Jan 4th. Nothing serious, just very painful and something I have been trying to deal with since May. Finally the pain won!!!

John, wonderful Dad that he is, is braving the ice show alone!! Prior to going all I heard was that there would be no SNOWCONES!!! Well we see who won that one!! i also heard that each girl has a light up wand!

Sophia and Dominque both wore jeans with turtlenecks and their matching pink Disney cruise line princess zipper hoodies!! They looked so cutes...

Yeah . . . call me a sucker, or a softie . . .

Hate those sno-cones - they are EVIL! $12 each! The bottom of my shoes are STILL sticky when we got home! Of course, after a few bites, both girls were tired of them, and you know who had to eat a bunch of ice after the girls got most of the syrup with a straw.

Disney on ice must have bent to some parental pressure though . . . with each sno-cone, you get a package with an extra straw, spoon, napkin AND wet wipe - I gave the guy a tip (must have been the only one, he acted so surprised) and he gave me extra napkins and packets!

It is FREEZING and WINDY and horrible out. It is currently 8 degrees outside!!!!! Our electric heat is on in the bedrooms because our poor coal stoker just can't handle it along!!! There are only a few nights each year that it needs "help" and this is one of them!

Ok . . . at the risk of sounding uncultured . . .

I really found little fault with the DCL food. Sometimes it was not as hot as I like food, but I thought it was fine. I thought the quality was good, and I really enjoyed the desserts. I did not find it bland, or spicy. I would have liked some ethnic flavor, but realize they are cooking for so many people - many of whom would probably not care for such selections.

On the other hand, I have not cared for any of the buffets on the ship other than breakfast (I don't count Palo Brunch as a buffet).

Of course Palo was a cut above all of that!

So . . . am I just not as discerning? Or too easily satisfied?

I am again on the same "boat" as you. I don't know if I am easily pleased when it comes to my food or the fact that I was raised PA Dutch (known for their BLAND cooking) makes me love DCL food.
