This is the type of thing that got measures on both California and Oregon ballots to stop this foolishness. After the voters passed the measures in both states (CA way back in the 80's, Oregon in the 90's) the politicians are crying foul, but the retired folks are still in their homes. Of course during the elections in both states there were the typical scare tactics that there would be no police officers, no firemen, no services, no schools. All of those things still exist. California's created a sort of progressive tax system. When the house sold it was re-assessed at the new price. Folks said this was unfair because people who stayed in their homes paid less but those just moving in pay more. It did save the old folks though and young families knew what they would be paying in a new home and bought accordingly then their taxes remained relatively the same with some inflation allowed.
