The nightmare of the move continues....
 
They don't have to be at closing. They can go in and sign the paperwork earlier. They can arrange a time come back and pick up their check from the attorney. Closings are normally scheduled around the buyers not the sellers.

while the re attny. should have advised of the new closing date, it may be (depending on the buyer's financing) that unless the place closed now vs. later-they may not have qualified (i think i heard the feds may be raising interest another quarter of a point in the next couple of weeks). some folks don't do a lock in rate on their mortgage, so a quarter percent increase could make or break a deal.

btw-$40 a day sounds like a great deal to me, if we had chosen to rent back we would have had to pay over $90 per day due to the crazy financing our buyers got.

They scheduled the closing for our new house and neglected to send US the information. We found out from the sellers. We would have preferred a different time, but oh, well, it is done.


They are packing our house now, tell your SIL that they packed 90% of our house in ONE day and we have 3 kids and 16+ years of stuff, etc. What will take them weeks to do the packers can do in a matter of a couple days.

I think you're probably 100% correct in regards to the reasoning behind the new closing..

And I also agree that $40 a day is a HUGE bargain - can't even get a motel for that!! I would have thought it would be at least $100 a day, if not more..
 
Why is all this going through your SIL... what does your daughter say?
 
C.Ann, what an unbelievable summer this has been for you! Maybe your DS doesn't want to feel obligated, or feel as though his wife's mother had to step in to handle things, (male pride, you know...) I'd do the same as you're doing. Just wait and see how he wants to handle it. At least the amount they're paying per day is reasonable. It'll all get done. Your DD knows that you're there for them when needed. :grouphug:

Well if that's the way he feels, it's pretty foolish.. He was there when I needed him and I've been there when they've needed me.. No one should be keeping a "scorecard" or feeling obligated..

He's just being a "man" - LOL.. My DH was like that about certain things.. If his mind was made up about something, there was NOTHING you could do to change it.. ;)

She tells him pretty much the same things that I do, but it goes in one ear and out the other.. He's a great guy - love him to pieces - but he tends to do things the hard way and then wonders why he's running around like a chicken with his head cut off..

I don't know if he thinks I'm going to tell him something "different" or what.. He can be extremely stubborn at times.. DD knows I made the offer.. She told him he should accept it - he thinks he should do it "his" way.. So - I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens..

Why is it up to him... isn't it her house to? I hate to be so blunt but it sounds as she needs to go ahead, take charge and take you up on your offer, even if he doesn't agree. None of you need the added stress right now :hug:
 
I read the thread before and just read today's and I only have one thing to say.

Let them handle it! As long as all your stuff is out and everything you promised to do is done LET THEM FIGURE IT OUT ALONE. If they are adult enough to have a house they need to learn the hard way. My Dad used to do the same thing for my sister, well when he was gone she learned quick what the rest of us had been doing all along and there were a few hard lessons. She is better off now and managing just fine. You tried and have done way more than most of us ever dreamed of having someone do, Take care of yourself!
 
hugs and good luck! sounds like the night mare just continues ;) he'll come around at literally the last minute!! good thing you are there for them :)

They'll survive because they "have" to - just the same as if I dropped dead right now.. Sure is going to be interesting to watch though.. LOL :teeth:
