Instead of putting the child into a detention center, perhaps they should investigate why an 11 year old was able to get her hands on a gun in the home.
11-Year-Old West Virginia Girl Allegedly Uses Gun to Force 7-Year-Old Sister to Play

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Police say an 11-year-old Martinsburg girl threatened her 7-year-old sister with a gun to force the younger child to play with her.

Martinsburg police say the girl also pointed the .38-caliber pistol at her grandmother. The child surrendered the gun after the grandmother made several demands for it.

The weapon wasn't loaded but police believe the girl didn't know that.

The incident occurred Monday evening at the grandmother's residence.

Police said the two girls argued and the 11-year-old then retrieved the gun from her grandmother's bedroom.

She was being held at a juvenile detention center on charges of brandishing a weapon and domestic assault.

The names of the girls and the grandmother weren't being released.

This is another case where I think the adult in the house should be charged with child endangerment.

An 11 year old should not be able to get his/her hands on a gun.

If no shot was fired and no one was hurt, why were the police called? Sorry....just confused. Did they call the cops to try to scare the girl into never doing it again?

:sad2: Grandma probably had it in her dresser or thought it was hidden well. Most in home shootings are done with a gun that was supposedly hidden where the kids wouldn't find it(not)! :confused3

Did anyone else notice there was no mention of the girls parents in the article?

Also this may be a sign of more serious mental problems. My sister has a son now 12 with mental health issues & it has taken her over 5 years of fighting to get the DR.'s, schools, & family services to admit that someone this young really could be mentally ill. She kept getting erither the he is too young for this, or boys will be boys attitude. Even though she should not have had a gun, I hope neither of these girls is allowed to fall through the cracks in the system! Sad all the way around. :sad2: :sad2:
