at first i was thinking, "thats just their culture" but since the age of consent is 15, it really isn't?

it isn't like this doesn't happen in the us though. (minus the marriage, most of the time)

and i really feel like i could tell a 15 year old from an 11 year old.

It might be their culture but there is no way an 11 year old is even slightly mature enough to handle raising a child. Not that it doesn't happen, don't get me wrong, but statements like this:

I think it's really sad that this little girl has to grow up so soon... And I'm sorry, but there is no way you can mistake an 11 year old girl (JUST TURNED 11, at that) for a 15 year old girl. I hadn't even started my period when I was 11. Seriously, my heart goes out to this poor child. And yes, she is a child.

I'm not even a prudish person. I don't think you should have to be married and everything when you have sex, and I don't think badly of teens who have children (I feel bad for them, but I'm not going to look down on them or judge them for it). But this... this really truly appalls me. I just feel so bad for this poor girl.

I know other countries and other religions do things differently.. but some I just can't help but shake my head at.

Even though the grandmother, who had probably lived there her entire life thought the girl was to young, EVEN though it was tradition and normal in that country. So no matter where you live.. in your elders eyes you're always going to be their little girl or boy.

i agree, but even in the united states, shotgun weddings are still a regular practice in many areas.

What you're forgetting is that since she was able to get pregnant, she was post-pubescent. Not all 11 year old girls look like 11 year old girls.

I went to school with a girl who got pregnant when she was 11. She didn't look like any 11 year old I've ever seen. She didn't exactly look like and adult, but she didn't look like a kid either.

Just because something is illegal, it doesn't mean tradition will stop. There are tons of things that are illegal, but for some people those things are illegal. What's done is done. Yes, the guy should be reprimanded legally, but if they're going to punish him they should also punish the thousands of other gypsies. Why this father, why now? Majority rules, if you're going to punish one you gotta punish all. JMO.

i think she could pass for 15 now, but i'm curious as to how she looked before she got pregnant. (before the baby weight/larger breasts)
