DD11 is having boys to her b-day party this year. What do I give an 11 year old boy in his treat bag?? Moms of boys help!!:)

JMHO but that is a little old for goody bags.

I don't think you even need goody bags for that age.

After age 9 or so I don't do treat bags...I do a small theme-related gift. This year I took my son's friends out to eat in an airplane (really, lol!) then to see Iron Man 2. Their "treat" was a lenticular Iron Man puzzle. The puzzles were $4 each at WalMart. That's less than I used to pay to put party bags together.

You might consider doing some sort of small toy that is theme-related that both boys and girls would enjoy.

Another thing I've done for older kids is buy one package of goofy theme-related toys (like wristbands) Then, I got one of those big Hershey's bars for each kid...tied curling ribbon around it, and affixed the wristbands through the bow. That was super cheap...under $1.50 per kid. At the older age most kids would rather have the big candy bar than a bunch of little junk.

One last idea...buy fabric markers and let the kids design t-shirts or pillow cases at the start of the party. My older son's friends made Pirates themed t-shirts. (I'd written their names on prior to the party...traced stencils) My younger son's friends made pillow cases with a Star Wars theme. That time I traced the word "STAR WARS" on the front of the case...using the font from the movies. They just had to color in the letters and add tie fighters, etc.

You can throw the items in the dryer to set the ink while they have snacks and open presents. Depends on how long the party is.

Candy bars, warheads or anything sour, pixie stix, gum, Flarp, yo-yos, deck of cards, and magic tricks (Dollar Store has a bunch of these)

Try plastic cups, in the BD theme if you can find them. I put Spider Man cups into a clear plastic treat bag with mechanical pencils, Mardi Gras beads and candy for DS10's BD a few months ago. The mechanical pencils were from the $1 section at Target. Maybe glow sticks would work also. Have fun planning your party!

I don't worry about treats at that point. A party is just a great time to get together and enjoy themselves.

I agree treat bags were a thing of the past with boys at this age. If you want to do them..FOOD. Every boys choice. Candy, beef jerky, cans of chips, gum, sour/gross candy.

You can't go wrong with candy and gum. Oh, I put little water squirter guns and punch balls in my 9yo's party yesterday and let my 12yo DS have one and he played with them.

candy,1000 times, candy! or they like glowsticks too.....other than that, they don't like little kid junk so much anymore

Last year for DS's 11th b-day he had a baseball themed party. I did Big League Chew, David Sunflower seeds, corn nuts, large sized chocolate bar and baseball water balls ($store). Even the girls got these bags and they all loved them!!

My 13-year-old son had his baseball friends over to celebrate and we did the exact same thing. A big hit! The year before we simply bought those giant chocolate bars and it was perfect.

I don't think kids are EVER to old for favors. A favor is a way of saying thanks for coming to my party.

For my son's 11th this past January we had a movie party at home. For the favor I did a plastic popcorn container filled with candy and popcorn, wrapped it in cello, put a tag on it that said thanks for coming and the kids LOVED them.

I would def. do something edible!

i just had this dilemma with my 12 y/o DS birthday. It was a movie birthday at the movies with lunch and snacks. In the end I decided not to do anything more and it was fine. However if I had done something I was going to do the big candy bars. Boys love those, along with any sour or extreme kind of candy, pop rocks another big winner. Good luck.

Oh, thanks everyone! Some great ideas here! I do have to agree, that kids (of any age) are never too old for treat bags! So to those of you that don't bother, thank you but I would never think of not giving one. That's just a personal preference and not one for etiquette sake, by any means. It's also something that my daughter and I plan and do together, so maybe I'm a little selfish in that respect!
I think the general response is CANDY! I think between sending them home with candy and silly string, the parents will be happy with me!:)

They are definitely not too old for goody bags at 11.

Oldest DS 14 just went to a school sponsored 8th grade graduation party and the kids all got goody bags at the end; 300 kids and I could see everyone of them peeking in those bags as they left. He was having a blast going thru it in the car on the way home.

It had Glow necklaces, Silly Bandz, candy, a plastic rainbow colored Peace Sign necklace.

Can I tell you he was thrilled with the Silly Bandz and he only got one.

Other things kids that age like include baseball cards, squirt guns, playing cards. Silly string is always a big hit.

Walmart near us just started carrying a large selection of party favor stuff. They had glow stick necklaces $1 each - red or blue. I bought those for DS's 9 yr old friends along w/some sticky bug slingshot things - 4 pk for $1, added some patriotic Little Debby brownies, gum & candy. They were thrilled. Water guns would be another popular treat - at their Scout picnic, boys of ALL ages were having a blast w/the water guns.

This reminded me of the goodie bags I made for my son's 6th grade promotion party. They got a purple beaded necklace, tassel keychain, purple bracelet (like the yellow live strong ones), a beach ball and shutter shades. The theme was 2010 and I choose purple for the school colors. I got everything at oriental trading company. Each bag cost $1.25!! The kids loved them. They opened them right away and started wearing everything. The next day at promotion, several of the kids were wearing their beaded necklaces. :cheer2:
