Hi Everyone,

Soon to be new DVC Member (ROFR Willing). In another Timeshare system I own as soon as you reach an availability month 11 months out you can just book the days you need from the month that is now available.

From reading this board I gather that If you want to book lets say Mid september - you would have to wait till 11 months before on the exact day - say the 15th - became available and book say 15th- 24th day by day?

I was really shocked  that the Disney systems would be so user-unfriendly in this area (BUMMER) :scared1: compared to my other system. Is there a special reason for this? Just curious.....

And I take it During Food and Wine at the Epcot Resorts this would be especially necessarypirate:

I'm confused at what you are saying.

Here is how it works. If you want to check in on Dec 25, you could call on Jan 26 to make the reservation for that day. Then you call on Jan 27 to get Dec 26. And so on.

But, no, you cannot call for Dec 25-Jan1 on Jan 26. You could call on Feb 1.

The system isn't user unfriendly, the competition is. But just for some specific rooms and/or specific periods of time. For instance, as you've noted, F&W is very popular with DVC members. And there are a very few number of those BW Standard View rooms. A lot of BW owners own BW specifically for those rooms at those times of year....a few more than there are actually rooms for.

For the VAST majority of situations, this isn't necessary. We always call once and have gotten what we wanted - and its a standard view or Boardwalk View during F&W - we should be calling day by day, but I always forget.

On the other hand, if you want a preferred view room in August, you might still be able to get one now.

I've been an owner for 10+ years and have never made a day by day ressie until this past week as we are wanting a concierge studio at AKLV over Memorial week. Since I think there are only 6 of those rooms available I wasn't willing to chance waiting til check out day to book them. I explained to MS what I was doing and they put the actual desired check out date on my reservation ( to keep from generating multiple confirmations). So far so good...this morning I need to add the last day. I have lots of friends who book day by day for the GV's.---Kathy

While booking day-by-day provides job security to those folks in Member Services who answer the phone, I'm not sure it is typically necessary except when booking highly desirable rooms that are available in a limited quantity during a peak DVC season (such as the standard BWV rooms during the F&W festival, or AKV concierge for the immediate future).

If I had to always book day-by-day, thay would make the whole DVC reservation process very painful indeed.

I've done day by day for a boardwalk view for early December and I would not say it's "painful". The first day takes as long as any other reservation. The rest of the days are 1, 2, 3, you're off. It's definitely necessary because when I called for the first night back in January, I got busy at work and did not call until around 2:00pm. The cm said I got one of the last ones and advised to call earlier the rest of the week. The rest of the week I called around 9:00am and got right through most of the days or a minimal hold.

I recently made a reservation for early May, I waited until the last day, I did not do a day by day and had no problem.

Thanks everyone! This is the info I needed since we usually travel during Food and Wine Fest! I guess Day by day it is ! :thumbsup2

I have never done a reservation day by day. In November of 2006 I got two 2-bedroom standard view Boardwalk rooms for October 2007 (during F&W.) In November of 2005 I got one 2-bedroom standard view Boardwalk room for October 2006 (also during F&W.) In November 2003, I got three 1-bedroom and one 2-bedroom standard view Boardwalk rooms for October 2004 (I believe 2004 is the first year that the F&W festival encompassed all of October, and it was announced after I'd made my reservations.) My point is that I've had no troubles (knock on wood) yet getting standard view BW rooms for the dates I want, without calling day by day. I will note that I go Sunday and leave on Thursday, so I'm sure that helps me get the rooms I want since I'm not asking for weekend dates, when the big F&W "events" are scheduled.
