Just took our DVC tour last week, and I am sitting on the fence, trying to decide if DVC is for us. One of the things I am having a hard time understanding is the, 11 month window, 7 months out.
I need to also call the person we talked to, he talked about the benefits of buying now, and I am not sure what the benefit was. He talked about the extra points, which were good for only 7 months, but because we would not be going back in the next 7 months the cash benefit would be better for us. He called the other day and said that we needed to make a decision soon if we wanted to take advantage of the offer.
Could someone explain the benefit of buy right now, thanks. Or should I just call our DVC person?

Those are the reservation windows. At the resort you buy (called your "home" resort"), you can make reservations as early as 11 months prior to your desired check out date. If you want to use your points to stay at any other DVC resor (non-home resorts), you can't make the reservation until 7 months prior to your desired check out date. For some times of the year, the smaller DVC resorts (VWL, BCV & BWV) are difficult (almost impossible) to get into if you have to wait until the 7 month window opens. So it is important to buy a resort that you will be happy with (if staying elsewhere doesn't work out).

When you take the tour, there is usually a time limit for you to accept the "incentive offer". (the extra points or cash off ). Sounds like that is what your guide is talking about.

Also, I believe the price is going up soon.

I think it is a good idea to call your guide back and talk over the things you don't think you quite understand.

Of course, please feel free to ask more questions here - we love to help!

Good luck with your decision!

Well I don't know what the 'urgency' offer was that the guide told you about so definately give him/ a call and ask what the advantage is to buying now vs say in a month.

I can explain the 11/7 window.

You will buy points at a resort- that will be your 'home'- let's say you buy AKV. You and other AKV owners will be able to make resevations 11 months prior to your trips. No other DVC owners can call and reserve AKV rooms during this priority booking window. They can only make reservations at their home resort. Likewise, you can't make reservations anywhere other than AKV durining this priority booking period. Then 7 months prior to any given checkout date any DVC member can call and try to book any resort.

If you're serious about buying, I'd give a look to the resales. There are some decent prices there right now.

Just keep in mind if you go resale you will have to arrange your own financing. Purchasing through Disney allows you to use their financing plan, obviously. Good luck!

If you just toured, your offer given at the time you toured is only good for about 4 days after your trip ends. That might have been the time issue, but as mentioned, the per point cost is going up to $104 a point on June 1.

We have a resale that we should be closing on any day now. I've been in touch with a DVC guide about the possibility of adding on AKV when we're finally in the system. I first contacted her about mid April and she said that the cost was $104 a point with matching developer points or $96 with no developer points. I just talked to her last week and she confirmed the same cost. If the per point cost is supposed to go up on June 1 to $104 then why is she quoting that to me now?:confused3

The price for new members is $104. The price for existing members adding on more points is currently $101 but is going up to $104 on June 5th.

Thanks for the explanation, LisaS, that makes perfect sense. I think maybe I already knew that but maybe I was having a premature senior moment.:rotfl:
Makes me wish we would have held onto our small BCV contract when we had to sell our DVC contracts a few years ago. Oh well, chalk that one up to live and learn.
