Okay, I thought about this on the way to work this morning. Can you tell Disney is always on my mind?

What would prevent someone from booking with their home resort points at the 11 month window and then checking for availability at the 7 month window and then booking another separate reservation for the same type of accommodations. Then, of course, they could just cancel the original one?

Nothing.

Actually, its what we recomend all the time.

If you are a BWV owner and pine for the roomieness of an OKW unit, your best move is to make a reservation at BWV at the eleven month window and then trying to change it to OKW at seven months. Of course you wil have extra points since BWV points are so much higher than OKW points, hopefully you will still have enough time to bank all those extra points.

I agree, it's the way to go. The only difference is it's actually simpler than you said. If you call day by day at the 7 month window, you will need to have duplicate reservations until you get to the last day. If you wait till you can book your entire stay at one time at the 7 month window, you just call and see if it's available. They say yes, cancel your previous reservation (at your request) then book the new one at the 7 month window. Easy as pie. That's one of hte main reasons why I say that buying HH and VB for use mostly at WDW is not a good idea.

and am a little confused.
Please help me walk through this scenario.

I have 160 BCV pts March UY.
I book BCV June Ressie at 11 month using 160 pts.

At 7 months I want to book WLV June Ressie 160 pts.

If I book day by day I will have to keep my BCV until my total Ressie is booked at the WLV. (In case a day is not available)

At that point, Am I cancelling at BCV day by day to free up points? Or am I in a borrowing situation, In which I borrow to make the WLV ressie and then bank the BCV points once that Ressie is cancelled.

If not booking day by day and I wait until I am completely within my window, is that 1 phone call to MS? i.e. If my week is available at WLV cancel BCV and Book WLV.

Please correct me if I have any part of this incorrect.

Thanks!
Lifer

Call member service the first day 7months from your arrival date - and ask about availability at VWL - if they say plenty - no problem - then wait until the last day - if they tell you that way only have 1 or 2 villas left then go ahead and make your reservations. then you need to continue to make your reservations day by day.

yes on the day by day - you are cancelling one reservations for the another on a day by day basis

during the week you are cancelling and make new reservations at the same time.

ms does this alot - so as I say - call on your first day and see what the availability is like - ask how many villas (the type that you want) are available for the dates that you want.

That's genrally what I do. My home resort is OKW, so I book at the 11 month window there. If I decide that I want to change resorts, I'll try to get something at the 7 motnh window. If it works, then I just cancel the original plan.

Sometimes I twist myself around and make things more difficult, but thanks for clearing that up!

I will definitely take your advice and call on the first possible day to check availability if i want to switch.

Your home resort is Beach Club Villas. You can book any stay at BCV up to 11 months in advance of your trip. If you want to stay on July 4, 2004, you can call and make your reservation anytime on or after August 4, 2003.

For all of the other DVC resorts, you can only book a stay 7 months ahead of time. Thus if you want to stay at the Boardwalk on July 4, 2004, you cannot reserve until December 4, 2003.

So your chances of getting into the Boardwalk are a bit slimmer because everyone who has BWV as their "home" has a longer period to take all of the available rooms.

Most of this thread deals with making contingency reservations at your Home resort. Using my example above, you could book a BCV room on 8/4/03, and then call on 12/4/03 to see if there is a room available at Boardwalk. If there is a room at the Boardwalk, you cancel your BCV ressie and make one at BWV.

Does that help?
