Is it OK to book a 2 bedroom at your home resort 11 months in advance and then try to change it to a different resort at the 7 month time frame? Do they allow this? I have never booked a 2 bedroom unit before and in 2005 we will need the extra space. Is it hard to get a 2 bedroom anyway?

There's no problem doing that. That way you will be guaranteed a room in case the other resort does not have availability at 7 months. You shouldn't have a problem getting a 2 bedroom at 11 months, 7 months depends on the time of year and the resort.

Barb45.... I think you are using a good/solid strategy. It allows you to at least guarantee yourself a room, and then try and get another 2-bedroom in the resort you need. Good luck! :teeth:

I have doen that on numerous occasions. It benefits people in both ways. You are sure oyu have a room, and if you get another room at the resort of your choice at the 7 motnh window, thenyour previous resrevation goes back up and someone on the waitlist could get it.

Remember that if your intial booking is for higher points than your 7 month switch you may need to bank points right away or you may even lose some to banking deadlines

Do they charge money if you use this strategy and change your reservation at the 7th month window?

No. They only charge for changes in reservations for resorts outside of DVC and the Disney Hotels (for example: the cruise, conceirge collection, adventurer collection).

I have used this strategy so far for every trip I have booked. We have to go at certain times due to the school calender and I want to be guaranteed we'll have a room even if it is busy at another resort.
