11 and 7 mth window

Hi everyone I am thinking about buying into the DVC. Well I'm sure I am... My question abuot the 11 & 7 mth window is, do you make a reservation 11 mth before your check in date and 7 if you plan to stay at another resort. I am going to try to buy JUNE year. If I were to make a reservation for next year in Dec. When do I start to do this? Thank you for all your help. I have been reading all of your questions and stories for days now and I think this is a wonderful site. Laurie:

If you were planning to check in on Dec 10, 2010, you could make the reservation on Jan 10, 2010 for a home resort (11 months from check-in) and on May 10, 2010 for a non-home resort (7 months from check-in).

Note that your use year has nothing to do with the 11/7 month windows.

Just another note- you should always try to book your home resort at the 11 month mark so you'll have some place to stay if the 7 month switch is not able to be filled. December is a popular time for DVC

Thanks, this is great to know. So if something comes available then I can cancel the first ressie. What if something were to come up and you had to cancel your vacation and bank your points. Whats the time frame for this?

If you cancel the reservation 31 days in advance of your scheduled arrival date the points will go back into your account to be used for a future reservation. If you cancel less than 30 days the points go into a holding account.

You can use holding account poinsts for a new Disney Vacation Club Resort reservation during your current Use Year as long as you book the reservation 60 or less days before the new check-in date.

If you cancel 31 days or more before check-in, current year points go back into your account and can be banked before your banking deadline. For a June use year, the banking deadline would be 1/31.

If you cancel 30 days or less before check-in, the points will go into a holding account and can only be used for a reservation 60 days before check-in. They cannot be banked.
