11/8/03 Western Cruise roll call.... "looking for info from DISers"

I'll have my dancing shoes on for the cruise! You can't miss me - I'm the extremely lucky lady with a long scar down the back of my leg, who was directed to an extremely gifted Dr., by someone who obviously has plans for me, and no sign of anything in my leg that shouldn't be there. :)

Now isn't it ironic that in Aug 2002, right around our big WDW vacation, before we knew our world would be rocked, we booked a cruise for Nov. 8th - 15th....of 2003 "just for us". and then on Nov. 14th, 2002 - a whole new chapter in our lives opened up!

I'm sorry for going slightly OT, but I'm a just-scanned, kind of private person who just felt the need to suddenly open up and say - I'll bring the BUBBLY to the DIS MEET, because I feel like the luckiest person on earth right now! :bounce:

Full moon, Eclipse - bring it on!!! I'm sending in my order for our shirts... The Tux... the rooms before and after - We are GOING!!!
:bounce: I've got a LOT to do this weekend!

Do they have a bouncy for dancing shoes? This is the closest I could find to me at the moment. And, do ya' notice it has red hair? And they call it crazy? Now, come on, what is THAT all about?? ;)

See you on the cruise! (okay - so I opened the bubbly early!! :teeth: )

Aime and the other scrappers on the 11/8 cruise --
Do you want to get together on board to share scrapbooking ideas and just to get to know each other. Then we can share pictures and help each other work on our layouts after we get home.

Let me know what you think, and if anyone has an idea for a good time to get together, please make suggestions. This is my first cruise, so I don't know the routine. :scratchin

Peace,
Mary K.

Good morning everyone
Today had a great start - made my weight goal! Yahoo - looking forward now to those frozen tropical drinks
:Pinkbounc

Making a list of what needs to be done still to get ready to get onboard ship 4wks from today! Time to start doing instead of just dreaming (although I will continue to dream until I get onboard)

Still waiting for docs - the UPS truck runs on Sats, right?

530pm Any DVCers still waiting for docs?

me again
took DS to the movie Good Boy today - was a good one

Just noticed we were on pg 3 so thought Id bump this up

Hows the cruise planning going?

Hey Bev - what are we doing about a corkscrew?

Okay, I just reread the last 6 months of posts and need some input from your all regarding our group meetings.

Beer/Wine/Cheesefest - it sems that everyone is okay with this event on Monday afternoon. What time do you prefer, 2:30, 3:00 or 3:30 p.m. I know it is either formal or semi-formal night (never can remember) and pictures start at 5:00. Location might be Deck 7 Aft with a poor weather alternative of Promenade Lounge.

DISMeet - I suggest 4:30 (right after drill) until 5:00 when sail away party begins. What about location? Deck 10 overlooking Deck 9 and Promenade as a poor weather alternative?

Please give me your input.

Other housekeeping items - I have a ton of lime green mickey heads. If you would like me to get some ready for your family, please pm me with your names, and an address to send them to.

Barb - as for corkscrews - as long as you pack it in your checked luggage, you should be fine - just don't carry it on the plane as carry-on!

BTW - who is organizing poker game? DH is just wondering where and when.

David - could you please include info in your next newsletter?
Or if you prefer, I'll set it up as a word document for you to e-mail to everyone.

Have a great week and Happy Columbus Day.

Hi Bev,
I will include all the info about the wine and cheese and Dismeet in an email going out tomorrow or Wednesday. Personally, I am all for starting the wine tasting at anytime, but the earlier the better so I vote for 2:30 but will defer to the majority.

4:30 for the Dismeet sounds great. I have a special bubble machine that I am hoping I can fit in my luggage for the occasion.

Thanks for getting this together

I ditto 2:30ish for Beer/Wine/Cheese meet, but anytime is fine.

I just sent a note to David confirming that I can bring bubbly if no one else has already planned to.

4:30 Dis Meet for the Sail Away - I missed that! Sounds like a great way to start the cruise!

I'm deferring to the veterans for meeting places - You all know best!

Thanks for putting this all together!! :D

ok who else is out there without docs yet?
Just called DVC who then called DCL and they were told "no, not all docs have been sent out yet"
So why do they hold some back?

Barb -

They are only withholding yours. Every other cabin has received theirs:p .

I am sure it is just a vast conspiracy to keep you on the edge of your seat. The America's Funniest Home Video cameras are trying to get a shot of you chasing down the UPS man. So they keep waiting. Maybe they are just waiting to give you the best upgrade possible.

I am sure they will come soon.

You are not alone, Barb. We haven't received our docs yet either! We are anxiously awaiting their arrival, as we are first-timers, too.

Can anybody tell me about the picture packages that are available from Shutters? I'd like to know about cost, quantity, rules, etc.

Peace,
MK::MinnieMo

No deliveries today. Maybe tomorrow.

I did get a bit of shopping done today. Got trial sizes of toiletries, laundry detergent, etc. We are starting to make a pile on the bed in the guest room.

It's cold here today. Can't wait for that Carribean SUN!!!!! :sunny:

Peace,
MK

Barb & MK~

Go on the DCL site and check your ressies. Maybe you guys got a nice upgrade and that's what's causing the delay!?!! :wizard:

Hoping your docs come soon!

Ok parents of 10-12 boys:
Are your boys looking forward to the structured activities in the Lab? or the free-time?
DS is looking more forward to the free-time, movies, just hanging out
Are you giving your kids free roam? Hoping the kids communicate through notes left in your room? Thinking of it except when we are in Port
Have you sent your notes in to their teachers yet?

Guess what I just got from inter-library loan? The Passporter's field guide to the disney cruise line and its caribbean ports of call! Have you guys seen this yet? Of course as soon as I saw it I gave my boss the ISBN and she is now ordering me my own copy. Surprised it took me this long! I knew it was avail online but first time I saw it in book form. It does say pub date of 2003

What library did you get that from and can you give me the ISBN #, please. Or I guess I could look it up. Darn, I don't work again till Mon. Might have to make a special trip in. Is your boss ordering a copy for your library? I would like to try and get it ILL. Of course, I may never want to return it.

ISBN # 1-58771-006-4
Call your library and see if they can place the ILL over the phone

Im currently on phone w/DVC & DCL. Docs havent been sent out yet. Seems they have 3 diff adrs for the 3 of us!
This is just suppose to be a remake of last Nov's cruise - we got the docs last yr - whats the prob now?

Hello all,

It's getting close, I guess I should start packing.

Barb,

Based on Ben(DS11) I would say that about 50-60% of the time he preferred the activity that was being done at the lab. We have been on the 3 day and 4 day Disney Wonder cruise over the last 2 years when he was 9 we were convinced to give him the freedom to check himself out of the lab but only with our approval after he paged us. The pagers they give to the parents seem to be a good idea. Last year as a 10yo he was able to check himself in and out. I believe this is the labs standard practice for 10 and above.
Ben is looking forward to going to movies or the gameroom or pool on his own this year. We will most likely give him this freedom but we are still going to make him let us know where he is whenever he leaves the lab. Either in person, via the pager or a message on the cabin phone.
We are fortunate the Ben is responsible for his age and alot may depend on the individual child but for what it it worth this is our experience.

I hope this helps, good luck and we will see of you soon,

John

Boys interests at 10-12 are much different than girls in that group. My DD who turned 11 on our last cruise said most of the boys in the group were really into the lab computer games. They had to fight the boys to get a computer when they wanted to play them. The girls were more into the activities they offer, but found them a bit boring... She said the counselors are great. She said the boys seemed to like the sport court as well. They were ticked the girls kept beating them badly & kept challenging them to a new game of Bball. If any of you have sons that are into Bball, our 2 girls will give them a real challenge.. Living in the land of the Huskies, girl's Bball is big here in CT, so beware...

We got motorolas walkie talkies from Costco, pretty cheaply, with the changeable sub channels. They worked well all over the ship & the girls would call us when they left the lab to go elsewhere. It gave them freedom, but gave us peace of mind too. We told them no hanging out in the stateroom corridors for safety sake- only public areas... The girls were very responsible & it made us proud that they handled the independence so well. I believe they only handed out pagers to parents of kids under 10 on the Magic, as 10 & up can check out of the lab on their own- I may be wrong, so you may want to check. I plan on bringing ours again. It may be a worthwhile investment for you. Our friends had a different brand of walkie talkies & their daughter's did not work well at all, so they used my DD's. I would stick with the Motorolas as they work well if you are going to buy some.

My DD & her friend that's coming are just shy of 13, but are just older for their age. They look & act older. They play Bball & soccer with 13, 14 & 15 yr. olds so they are used to being around teens & consider themselves teens already. They really have no interest in the lab & want to go to "The Stack". I'm hoping there are a lot of young teens on our cruise & getting them into that program won't be a problem. Otherwise they will play lots of Bball & ping pong... They really need a "bridge" program for the tweeners on the ship 12- 14...

Hope this info helps...
