Does anyone know if the weather is about the same on the Western as the Eastern?? I am geographically challanged

We have found that the weather is actually warmer, and far less windy on the western typically. We went on the southern caribbean cruise a couple of times, and it can be very windy, as there are no islands to the east of you. With the western, the land seems to cut down on the wind that you experience, plus I'm sure the direction of travel makes a difference. (Keep in mind, that I'm just a cruiser, not an expert mariner, so this is just from my own personal experience.)
