Hi everyone! We just returned from a quick Thanksgiving weekend trip. I thought I would post our dining reviews, the good the bad and the ugly. We did have a couple of very negative dining experiences. But, good ones as well. I'll rate on a scale of 1-5 - 5 being the best.
YACHT CLUB GALLEY - This is where we had Thanksgiving dinner. Now, I must preface this review with a fact. My mother usually cooks for Thanksgiving and she's pretty much the best cook I've ever encountered. So, we're picky after eating her good food. This was a buffet. We ate here for Turkey Day about 5 years ago and we really enjoyed it. This time I would say it was "adequate." The turkey was really really dry. Ham was very good. Last time they had roast beef which was delicious, but no roast beef this time. The stuffing was good, sweet potatoes good, mashed potatoes not very good, desserts were nothing to write home about. It was okay, but certainly nothing spectacular. The service was very good. I would rate it a 2.5.
KONA CAFE - We had breakfast here and as usual it was wonderful. Can't beat tonga toast and kona coffee. The service was so-so, but the food made up for it. I'll give it a 4.5.
KIMONOS - This is a sushi/karaoke place at the Swan (where we stayed this time). It was EXCELLENT!!! I will give it a 10 - service, sushi, and entertainment (especially my husband singing). The sushi was delicious as were the champagne cocktails. There is one called something...Orange Blossom and it's great...fresh squeezed oj. Loved it.
GARDEN GROVE - We had breakfast here - it's a wonderful buffet at the Swan. I don't typically like buffets but this one is different. The eggs are cooked to order and the food was all excellent. Service was top notch. They had delicious ham, bacon, hash browns, french toast, muffins, fruit...you name it. I'd give it a 4.5.
CHEFS DE FRANCE - We ate here for our Candlelight Processional package and it was superb!!!! Best service I've had on Disney property. The food was perfect. We both had beef tenderloin with a pepper sauce, potatoes au gratin and green beans. Dessert was out of this world. I loved the chocolate tart with lemon mousse. I would give it a 5, and I'd even put a plus on it for a 5+!!!
FRESH - We ate breakfast here and it was such a pleasant surprise. It too is called a 'buffet' but it's even less of a buffet than Garden Grove. Eggs and pancakes are made to order. Best breakfast potatoes I've ever had. Fresh Squeezed orange juice and Starbucks coffee. Definitely a 5!!
SPOODLES - We had dinner here on our last night and I have to say this was the worst food I've ever had on Disney property, except Sci-Fi Dine-In. And it's certainly not in that price range. The flat bread was good, but how can you mess up cheese and bread, right? My husband's chicken was so dry he couldn't chew it so he sent it back. It came back a little better, but still dry and tasteless. I ordered the NY Strip medium rare and it came back well done. I sent it back and it came back medium. The flavor was horrible - the potatoes were horrible. All in all, I can't think of one good thing to say about the food except I don't have to eat there again!! Service was fine, but NEVER EVER AGAIN. Even if it were free I wouldn't go. I give Spoodles a 1.5 and the .5 is just because of the flat bread and the coffee, which was very good.
BEACHES AND CREAM - Now this was a HUGE disappointment for me. We love this place - I've always said it's the best burger on property. I look forward to it every trip. FORGET IT!! They have changed the burgers. They are nothing more than the burgers you get in the parks. Horrible! However, my DH got a hot dog which was excellent. Apparently they changed the burgers but not the hot dogs. I asked about it and they said sometimes when they ran out they used the burgers at Hannah's - which isn't so because I've had the burgers at Hannah's and they aren't this bad. I'm very upset about this because B&C was "our place." We love the atmosphere and always looked forward to a good old fashioned yummy burger. We had a No Way Jose which was excellent. I will give B&C a 3, but only because of the No Way Jose and the hot dog. If I were rating the burger, it would be a 1.
That's it - we mostly snacked for lunch.
Any questions - I'd be happy to answer!
