I actually don't know as we haven't gone there yet. I'm counting on Robin or Judy to help us out with a full description here.
Hey, nanas, just got home...school dance. Last night was Sarah's ballgame, so I have A LOT of catching up to do. Magen's is one of the caribbean's top ten beaches, especially if you go early before the crowds. This is a great area for kids because it's in a cove and you won't have waves...which makes for safer play and nicer snorkling...go to the left (looking at the sea) as far as you can for the best area. Not a lot of water sports...they have sunfish, kayaks, floats, and snorkeling.
I ADORE THE BEACH BAR (starts serving at 9 AM), and always belly up with a few Bushwackers that taste like milkshakes but have about nine liquors in them. Locals love Painkillers... you will, too. Both drinks are served with fresh nutmeg, but I prefer them without.
Breakfast is good, but I LOVE the grilled cheese sandwiches and fries. Pizza and burgers are good, too. Take a cheap taxi or open air taxi for a few great hours at a gorgeous beach lined with palms. Locals love this beach...you always see them cooking out under one of the picnic shelters. We've also seen a few weddings. My friend Joy hooked me on this beach. Bikini clad girls and handome college boys serve you drinks in the sand or in the sea.
Coconut Joy is this old Rasta Man who climbs coconut trees and sells the coconuts. I also like the gift shop where you can rent anything you need. Super cute tees, especially for kids, and upscale resort wear, too.
Havensight is where we usually dock and the shops there are reputable...you can buy anything you would see in town and avoid the crowds. If you do go into Charlotte Amalie, get your picture taken on the back of Oprah the donkey. If you go on the ferry in Red Hook, stop into Duffy's Love Shack for burgers and drinks. Kenny Chesney always wears a Duffy's tie dye shirt if you've seen his videos. Marina Market is a reputable grocery store. Be sure to say, "Good Morning" or "Good Afternoon" before addressing locals. They will NOT wait on you nicely if they see you as a rude landlubber. If you get to KMart, I'm not kidding, they have super liquor prices, but everywhere booze is cheap.
