11-23-2008 DCL per-Thanksgiving 3 night Wonder cruise!!

After reading about everyone getting moved for dinner, I had to check and ... still second dining. Sigh. :confused3 Maybe it's because we have 5 in our party?

Fingers crossed on those upgrades! We were upgraded on our first cruise, from cat. 8 to cat. 6, adjoining rooms with my parents. Loved it!

I am sure you will be able to get moved on the boat. I am really looking forward to this trip. I can hardly wait.

I'm excited as well! There's so much happening at home before the trip (both DSs birthdays, soccer season (2 teams, DH coaches the little guy's and I'm the team mom), the read-a-thon at DSs school which I agreed to chair (what was I thinking!!!!), Halloween. I'm going to have EARNED this vacation!

I do wish I have more cruise stuff to get me through the next 2 months! I've bought a lot of little stuff already (sand toys, bathing suits, etc.), so that's taken care of. It's too early to pack, not much else to buy. I've made a few magnets for the doors, so other than maybe another one or two, that's finished. What are you all doing to stay cruise crazy???

I sing my boys Disney songs for lullabies every night!!!! And, put a picture of the Wonder on my computer wallpaper....and do a lot of daydreaming! DH and I talk about it on the way to work almost everyday about how awesome it is going to be.

Anyone else on the 9:30 boat for the Dolphin Encounter?

Anyone else on the 9:30 boat for the Dolphin Encounter?

We are! The boys and I are doing the encounter, DH and DMIL are going as observers. I was originally going to book through Blue Lagoon to save some $$, but the observer prices were the same, plus we'd have to get to the pier on our own. Now we'll let Disney worry about this.

I have to admit that I'm really excited about this! I'd love to do the swim someday, as does DS#1, but will wait until DS#2 is older and a better swimmer. I'm hoping the water isn't too cold! I did read there are free shortie wet suits to borrow.

The Dolphin Encounter sounds like fun. My son definitely has to be a better swimmer before I consider that.

So, do people dress up at all on the three night? I got my son a shirt and tie and he loves it. I was thinking about bring it for him to wear. Of course, my husband doesn't want to bring a tie. (I think I might have to cancel our Palo reservation) We will see as time gets closer.

I had my son's birthday party today. It's the first time I had a party for him with friends. It was crazy, but really fun. That has kept me busy the last week and a half. It's less than a month until my neice's wedding that my son and I are both in. I have lots of stuff I still have to do for that. Then it will be only 4 weeks until the cruise. When I think about it like that it feels like I don't have enough time.

I embroidered my son a pillow case for the cruise to be signed. I am also thinking about doing a tote bag (he uses a tote bag for preschool). I also want to make some magnets. I can't decided how much information I want to put on them. It feels weird to me to put our names on the outside of our door. Am I the only one who feels like that?

Your son doesn't have to be a swimmer for the encounter. You are standing on a platform in about waist deep water. When I was there in January, there was a 3 year old with us, and his grandfather just held him. I can not describe the look on the little boys face, it was that priceless. If you are not considering it for that reason, you should think about it again. (The Dolphin SWIM is different, you have to be older for that one.)

TCB asked about wet suits...yes they do provide shortys for everyone, including children.

As far as the magnets...I am completely with you...I feel really weird about putting my childrens names up on the door.

I am glad I am not the only one. I am still deciding what I want to do with the magnets. I am definitely going to make some.

The Dolphin Encounter is sold out. That's ok. I hate to spend that much money on anything from my DS to do. He seems to like to watch things from a distance. He likes the characters at the park, but doesn't want to get close to them.

People don't go all out getting dressed up, but the last night is a bit nicer (think Sunday church clothes rather than prom formal). If you want your son to wear his dress outfit, esp. if you want to do pictures, it wouldn't be out of place at all. And your husband doesn't have to do a tie or jacket for Palo at all! My DH has worn a polo with dress pants (or maybe a short-sleeved button-up shirt) and looked fine. There's no way he'd go much more formal -- it's the Disney cruise, not the Queen Mary!

I'm not into personalizing the magnets either, other than "the Bells." Then there's a Mickey as a Giants football player and a soccer Mickey. I'll probably do a birthday magnet for DMIL -- she could always put in on the door's inside if she doesn't want it on the front.

Well, Disneyfan, those Baltic cruises look great, except for the price. I don't have an extra $9000 for a 12 night cruise.

Is anyone else planning on dressing up for Pirate Night, or will my family be the only goofy ones doing it?

I would like to dress up. I know my DH would never. I have a puffy shirt I was thinking about bringing. I saw some cute skull and crossbone fabric the other day and I was thinking about buying it for a sash/belt. My son has a really really cute Captain Hook costume, but I am a little up in the air about bringing it all that way. The costume is not too big, but the hat is the nicest part and it is huge. He also has a Jake Sparrow costume (my ds likes to dress up) so I could bring that, but he hates the wig for that costume. I am afraid to ask him about it because he is 4 and he will want to bring both of them.

My DSs will be wearing pirate shirts for sure, maybe a new pirate hat if I remember to pick one up for H'ween. (OK -- I have a pirate hat too!) Now to find one for DH. The scarves they hand out are pretty good in a pinch.

While we are talking about clothes, be sure to get the free shirt from the kids club graduation! They are my DHs absolute favs -- not too fancy, very soft, and wash well. And if the kids don't actually make it to the graduation, just ask for the shirt later at the club. The graduation mickey ears are pretty cute as well, although take up more room in the suitcase.

So, who else booked something today? I booked the east bound TA for my parents. Jodie, I saw your question on the other thread about the SPH room. I wish I knew the answer for your. Who knows, but it might be more expensive to even book on the ship. Did you see they were offering cat 12 rooms for the Thanksgiving cruise this year for $3000 for 2 adults 1 kid? If I didn't already have this cruise booked I might have forced my DH to do a whole week.

Wow! Good price. I'm surprised they were offering that. Guess I figured the cruise would be booked up and they wouldn't need to discount it.

I actually booked several cruises today. I know - a little over the top (OK a lot over the top), but I'm not sure what we'll be able to do so far out, and I'm not sure what we'll be able to afford then either. In addition to the T-giving weekly cruise, I also booked the T-giving 3 nighter (same one as this thread) and the Christmas 11 nighter (very pricey - think I've lost my mind). I figure I'll pick one as time gets closer. Now I've got to figure out how I'm gonna pay all the deposits! Glad they were discounted!!

Did you book something for yourself or just your parents?

Jodie

The cat 12 fare is gone already. I wonder how long it was offered? I would love to understand the method to this madness!

Just my parents. My mom really needs a vacation and I know it is a long time away, but maybe I can get her to actually go. The airfare was pretty good through Disney or I probably would have not mentioned it to her. It only added about $1000 for 2 people and I know it would cost more than that just for the Barcelona flight.

I am not sure what we are doing about cruise again. I think my DH will kill me if I book another cruise before we go on the first one. I figure we might want to go on another 3 or 4 night in November next year. I will see what the prices are like and go from there. I actually we looking at the November cruise in 2009 that had two stops at Castway, but the pricing on that has really gone up. I think the half-off deposit has a lot of people book just to hold the spot. Maybe I will play it by ear next year and hope the prices are like they are this year. Seems like they have some good deals for this up coming October November.

I meant for this year. It was a couple of weeks ago. It was like $3000 for Cat 12 and $5000 for cat 11. I guess they were trying to fill the ship. The 7 day this year seemed to be cheaper than the 4 day Thanksgiving (if you were booking late).
