11-23-2008 DCL per-Thanksgiving 3 night Wonder cruise!!

I meant for this year. It was a couple of weeks ago. It was like $3000 for Cat 12 and $5000 for cat 11. I guess they were trying to fill the ship. The 7 day this year seemed to be cheaper than the 4 day Thanksgiving (if you were booking late).

Yes, this year was the one I checked. The cat 12 rate is gone already. It seems to me the Thanksgiving trips prices don't increase quite as fast as the summer and Christmas cruise prices. You can probably still get a decent rate onboard for Nov 2010. We have Nov 2009 booked (week long one), and the 2010 rate was significantly higher than what I paid for the 09 trip. For a family of 4, cat 9, the 09 trip was $5K. For the 2010 trip, we backed up to a cat 10, and the cost was $700 more!! Crazy!

Yeah, I was thinking about a 5 day cruise, but no way. It is over $4000 for a cat 12 for our family. I would much rather go in November for 7 days, it's less.

I think I just almost ooked us on the East bound TA with my parents. It looks like so much fun. There is just no way I could go the same time as my parents.

Could you do the Westbound? There are so many things to do on board, you don't even have to see your parents if you don't want to.

On our November cruise, my mom and stepdad will be in the room beside us. On the other side, in a connecting room, it will be my grandmother, neice and nephew. I'm planning on taking full advantage of that connecting stateroom. After all the kids are asleep, I'm planning on sneaking out with my dh to go to the nightclubs - figure I can just leave the connecting door open so that my grandmother can hear the kids if they wake up. We've never been able to do that before. Its a definite advantage of traveling with family!

I don't mind being on the ship with my parents, but all work for the family business and it is too many people to be gone for so long. My son will most likely be starting Kindergarten that year and I think that is too long to pull him out the first month. I am just not sure what his reaction will be to school. We had a lot of difficultly when he started preschool. A lot of crying.

I also think my DH will not like the feeling of being "trapped on the ship". I figure if we do a cruise that long maybe we will do a Hawaii round trip from the west coast. Maybe Disney will go to Hawaii someday. Of course, with prices like these I don't think I will be able to afford it.

Still waiting patiently for my cabin assignment.

You know, I didn't think I would enjoy cruising, and the only reason we tried it is because it was Disney, and I'm a sucker for their marketing. We've done 2 Disney cruises and loved them both. I never felt trapped at all. As a matter of fact, I've wanted more sea days to sit by the pool and chill out. There is so much to do, you're just never get bored. I think your dh is in for a pleasant surprise.

You're lucky. Take advantage of the fact that your son hasn't started school yet. You can cruise any time and don't have to worry about the stinkin school schedule!! We really hate to take our kids out of school. I don't mind a day or 2, but any more than that is hard. And so we're stuck paying the high prices during summer or holiday time.

You might want to keep an eye out for those cat 12 discounts. I have a feeling there will be more of them popping up with the economy the way it is.

What type of business does your family own?

What type of stateroom did you book? I'm guessing it was a "guarantee" status one? I would think you'd be getting your cabin assignment any day now.

We booked a cat 12. It was so much cheaper at the time we booked that I couldn't pass it up. I think it was $400 more for cat 11 when we booked. So, I hope to know by Friday. When I booked I knew there was a chance I would get a cat12. I guess the fact that they are still selling cat 12 is a good sign. I actually was thinking our cruise was more sold out than it wasbecause I kept putting our son in. As soon as I put in 2 people all the cat. are available. I guess the kid's club are pretty close to being full. Actually I was surprised, I was bored one day and I checked all categories and 8 and 7 where the only ones in gty status. Every other category you could still pick a room.

My family own an industrial equipment distributor. Not very exciting, but it pays the bills. There are only 8 employees, so not too many people can be gone at one time.

I am not sure about my DH. Time will tell if he likes it. I have a feeling he won't hate it, but he won't love it either. It would be nice if he did.

We booked a cat 12 for our Med cruise, and they ended up bumping us to a cat 9. We got VERY lucky! I'm not sure how I feel about not being able to see outside.

My dh is generally a pretty fun guy - gets a little stressed about work now and then. He really enjoys the cruise. Hes not a big eater, so its not the food thing. I think its just the relaxation and being able to sit by the pool and order margheritas all day if he wants to. The service is also incredible, not to mention that everyone on the ship is in a good mood. I bought him a pirate outfit before our Med cruise. He rolled his eyes, but was a good sport and wore the crazy thing. I'll see if I can find a picture.

I feel exactly the same! I could stay on the ship all week -- DH says he would get stir crazy. I just love the idea of packing/unpacking once, then being able to see different areas. I'm open to other cruise lines -- but am just wary about finding something that would be good for the whole family, not just a party boat.

I'm sad to hear how high the prices are for the 5-day cruises! I had just convinced DH to rebook onboard, even not knowing where we'll be living in 2010.

OK, I can't seem to figure out how to post a picture in the body of this message. I'm "copying" the photo, but I can't get it to "paste" here. What am I doing wrong?

Jodie

Jodie- I think you have to put it on a photo-host site, something like flixster. I think the how-tos are in the sticky notes on the main cruise board.

I'll check it out. Thx!

In the meantime, I saved our itty bitty pirate picture as our avatar!

Great pic! Wow, you do get decked out!

It was a special thing we did for the Med trip. I bought costumes at a local shop - doubt that dh and I will dress up this time (too much trouble for a short trip) - although the kids probably will. I'm really looking forward to this trip!

That picture is adorable. I have used photobucket, but it made me sort of mad. When I signed up they ask for your cell number and some how I got signed up for some premium text message that was $10.

It's pretty easy once you get the photo uploaded you click on url box and it automatically copies and then you paste the link in the message. You basically can only have a link....you can't actually attach the photo.

Just checking in on you all and hope everyone is doing well!!!!!!!!!!!!
We have a dep. on the Med cruise for 2010. Doing the 8 night July 30,2010. It really seems to be the best price when I figured it out by cost by night.
I sure wish I was going with you all this Thanksgiving!!! You all are going to have so so so so so much fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is anyone else thinking or booked any 2010 dates?

I've seen actual photos posted in the body of the message - just not sure how they're doing it. Oh well - not important.

Disney Fans, we booked (1) Thanksgiving week, (2) 3 night Thanksgiving, (3) 11 night Christmas cruise. Thank God the deposits are half right now. We'll decide which one closer to cruise time.

Also, I wanted to thank you for telling me about the Everest Challenge. My dh and I ran it - had lots of fun. We're not used to being at Disney without the kids. Epcot was holding their Food and Wine festival while we were there, so we were able to walk all around Epcot eating, drinking, and listening to bands all day - was great!

Have you estimated airfare to Europe for your Med trip? You'll pay at least $1,000 per person (based on 09 fares). The crazy transatlantic airfare prices will keep us home for a while I'm afraid. However, I did note that Aer Lingus offers a good one way fare for anyone interested in the transatlantic cruises - way less than other carriers.

Here is a photo of my son in his Captain Hook costume.

I just finished my online check in...I think. I feel like I didn't print out enough forms.

Love the look on his face!

How the heck did you paste that picture there??????

http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/video-tutorials/

This is a really good tutorial on how to do it. I use Photobucket, but do not put your cell phone number in under any of the sign up information. You do not have to, but they make it seem like you do. You do have to fill out your name and stuff, but of course they have no way of know that information is correct. Then you upload the photo. There is a box that say IMG code. When you click on it, it automatically copies. Then you come to the post and paste the link. It will only show as text but if you do it right when it posts it will show the photo.

Have you all noticed all the chatter about the other cruise lines on the regular cruise forum? I'm actually thinking about looking into RCCL for next year if/when we cruise again. This will be the third time on the Wonder, and while we've had a wonderful time, I'm ready for something different. I hoped it would be during one of the 5-day cruises, but ooooooouch on the costs!

On a happier note, I was at the class 6 store (base package store) and picked up a few mini-bottles for the cruise! And the boys' birthdays are coming up in the next 2 weeks, so we can finally tell them and have them join in the fun. Last year, we were going to tell them at their birthday, and DS#1, then 6, was looking ahead on the calendar and saw "CRUISE" written down! We had forgotten he could now read -- and since when do kids look at the calendar??? This year's calendar simply reads "boys' school break" and "Nana visits" (they know dMIL is going to be spending T'g with us).
