We will be in thee world from 10/24-11/4 and as the shuttle launch was planned just before we arrived. But it has now been pushed back to 11/1 at 4:40pm. I am excited to see it, more so for my daughter to see it, with so few missions left. I know it can always be pushed back and what not but hoping it is not. We were planning to go to Clearwater that day, but I think I will push that back a day and either stay at MK or head over to Coco. I know you can see it from really far away, but I think it would be kinda cool to actually hear it, if thats possible from Coco.

Sorry for the rant, but I think its pretty cool and an added bonus for our trip.

Go to Titusville... but get there several hours early, and make sure you don't have plans for several hours later.

You can also get text alerts so that if the launch is scrubbed you can turn around and head back right away.

Cool! Im going to be there til the 2nd....Is there anywhere within Disney World that you can see it from?

Yeah thanks I just read after doing a search that Titusville is the place to be. Now I just need to decide if its worth the agony of the crowds and traffic.

Should be able to see it from Disney, but more so just the line of smoke than actual shuttle I believe

It's worth a day away from the parks, especially if you've been to Disney before and know you'll be there again. It's something you'll remember for the rest of your life.

Just know going in that it's a huge time commitment, because there's really only a couple of ways in and out of town, and everyone hits them at once. You're better off hanging out in Titusville for a few hours. There's not much to do there, but it's a lot more pleasant than sitting in traffic.

Anywhere -- as long as there's nothing blocking your view to the east. You'll see a pretty impressive curling trail of smoke with a bright yellow dot leading it.

I saw it standing near the water at Downtown Disney. You can see a bit of flame and the contrails and it goes by really fast. Just look for where people are gathered. There were probably 40-50 standing watching at DTD.

Hey guys---I found this pic of past shuttle launch from Magic Kingdom--so I assume this is what it will look like and where it will come from.

Since I am planning to be at DHS that night, and I have NO sense of direction, which way would be east if I was standing facing the giant sorcer's hat? Anyone know? haha thanks!!

I believe the little lake there -- Echo Lake -- is the east. But someone else will hopefully confirm or deny that.

We always get a good view from the Coast. In fact we have watched many launches from our front yard!

WOW! we are going to be there on 11/1. I cant wait to see it. My DH will love it

Don't hold your breath on an 11/1 launch. If you're going to be there a week or so around that, you'll have a better chance of seeing it... but they can and do scrub for any reason at all.

Your back would be facing east.

When the first shuttle went up back in early 80's we were at a Holiday Inn in Orlando off the South Orlando exit off the turnpike. We ran out of our room and could clearly see it. It was more than just a fire trail and smoke. Heck that's what it looks like from Ft Lauderdale and that's 160 miles south of Cocoa. I wish it was a night mission, on the last one my SIL was on 95, he said it lit up everything. If only the hotels weren't so expensive we'd stay in Cocoa and hope the launch doesn't get scrubbed.

That would be SO COOL since I am there the 31st thru Nov 5.....

We went to the causeway last Feb. The launch was at about 4:00 AM and it was pitch black. Then the sky lit up. The ground shook, my lungs were vibrating. Seeing it was a bucket list item for DH.

Nice photo... night launches are the best. If you watch carefully before a night launch, you'll see the ISS pass before the launch (if that's the shuttle's destination). They time the launch to take place after the station passes, to make it easier for the two to meet up in orbit (and it uses less fuel).

That may be useless information since I don't think they're planning any more night launches, but that could change if they have to change the launch windows for the remaining flights.

I've seen launches at DHS for the last 2 years in May. I always stand inside the park just after you get through security, and look back towards the buses. I can download my pics when I get home to show you what you would see. It was really an awesome experience! :)

We will be there for the launch too. Looking forward to seeing it from the MK.
