11/06/04 Western New and Improved Official Thread!

Oh bummer......I knew in my heart this would probably be the case but I was hoping against all hope for GC I guess.........
Thanks for the link. If it came from the Captain's mouth it must be right. Just find it odd that DCL is not devulging this info to cruisers ? I feel bad for people who don't use these boards or go on the internet at all. Won't they be suprised

On the other hand, for some of us, it's not that big a deal. Grand Cayman, Costa Maya... Mars, as long as it is warm and sunny, I don't care.

I can understand why they don't divulge information any sooner than necessary, generally it's not productive. And then if you are wrong, you're changing your statement twice. It's better to be safe and make a correct announcement once, than to be in a pattern of announce, retract, announce, retract.

Since this does bum some passengers out, I wonder if there is any compensation coming our way... a shipboard credit in any amount would certainly be welcome, and I'm sure it may ease the discontent of those who are unhappy with the changes.

I'm not part of your sailing (we are on the 11/20/04 Western) but I just got off the phone with DCL excursion reservations and I was told that you WILL be the first sailing to stop at GC!!! After the hurricane.........

:hyper: TA just called to say our docs are in and we got upgraded, happy birthday all around!!!!

That is FAB news!! I just don't know who to believe? Capt Tom or Shore Excursion ? Maybe we should look at this being a mystery cruise!!

Sherry, I would love a shipboard credit but the fine print says DCL has the right to change ports without notice.::yes::

CinRn, Congrats on the DOC's and upgrade. What category was your upgrade? Please share the details!!:hyper:

TTFN,

Jackie

Our docs are in too - woo hoo!!!:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

We don't care too much about the port we are going to be stopping in - as long as it is warmer than it is here. No more shorts for us!!

One of my aunts and uncles that is coming on the cruise packed this weekend!!! I am jealous - I want to pack too, but our suitcases have to be lugged out of a FULL closet. I will have to put DH on that mission this week.

Also, I will post this again since we have some newbies to this thread - If you booked through DCL (not with a TA) and you are interested in joining our group to get some perks, please pm me and I will be happy to give you more details. This would definitely be something you will be interested in!! Please let me know.

Well, I am off to cruise dream land now - now that it is soooo close!!

Lisa

:D upgraded from a 12 to a 10. It is our first cruise and we are all very excited. After 9 years finially convinced the husband to give it a try. we got room 1069, this does sleep 4 doesn't it?

 Hi, I'm Kandi ... I'll be joining you on the 11/6 Magic Cruise, and I am SOOOO excited! I'm traveling with my DH, our 2 DS's (8 and 5) and another couple and their two DS's (9 and 7). Rumor has it that we've been upgraded from cat. 12 to 10 (gotta love that split bathroom) Only possible bummer is that we'll be right under Rockin' Bar D ... oh well. I'm a bit of a night owl anyway, so I might just be in Rockin' Bar D some nights :teeth:

We've requested the later seating dinner. It worked wonderfully on our last cruise in May of 2003. We didn't have to rush through our day and we had a bit more success letting the kids swim at around 4:30/5:00 when a lot of families were heading back to their rooms to get ready for dinner. We could also use that time to get the kids something to eat if they were hungry. Then we didn't feel pressured to make them stay with us at dinner if they really wanted to be in the club instead.

I'm not sure what, if any, excursions we'll be booking. There's been talk of Catamaran Racing in Key West ... all I know is that I'm determined to get to Margaritaville this time, and my beloved Patriots are playing at 4:00 ... so I need to watch that game somewhere! Then there's the confusion of Costa Maya vs. Grand Cayman ... don't know where we'll be, nor do I really care all that much. I just can't wait to be on that ship basking in the sunshine :sunny:

poohssmum welcome. We will also be watching the Pats from somewhere on the ship. We are traveling with our DD-5 and DS 15 months. We are hopefully going to Margaritaville also. My cousin and her hubby live in Big Pine Key so they are meeting us in Key West for lunch. Not sure what will happen with Costa Maya. My DH and DD were getting off on GC for the submarine while I stay onboard with a very active little 15 month old. In Cozumel my DH and DD are doing the Dolphin Encounter. Can't wait it is almost here.

Things about Grand Cayman get more interesting... It really depends on who you talk to. There is a post on the regular cruise board that indicates that the harbor is being opened up to Cruise traffic on October 29th. That means that most likely we'd be docking. Here is the link:
http://130.94.75.33/showthread.php?s=&threadid=661656

I also e-mailed Captain Marvins and asked about their status. If we do dock, those here booked with Captain Marvins will be able to go to Stingray City. Here is the e-mail I received back!

Lori, Thanks for writing. Yes, we will be ready for you on the 9th. See you at the Waterfront Centre that morning! Centre that morning! Ruth

Tyty - we live in West Warwick - in the middle of the state. Other family members that are coming on the cruise live in Johnston, Exeter, North Smithfield and Providence.

Are you flying or driving down? We are flying in on the 5th, actually getting in on the 6th at 12:20 am. We have an 8:00 pm flight on SWA out of PVD. We have done the drive many, many times in the past, but it is definately somthing I do not like to do. I prefer to fly and be there in 3 hours (5 hours for us as we have a direct flight that stops in Baltimore) Still better than the 24 hour drive!!

TA just called to say our docs are in and we got upgraded, happy birthday all around!!!!
Fantastic CinRN ! We're in cat 10's too (the SPH rooms) on deck 5. We booked back in March 2003.

The news about GC is fantastic ! It's really the stingray snorkel that my kids were looking forward to the most ! FINGERS CROSSED here !!!!!!! :bounce:

Welcome Kandi ! Hope to see you at the DIS meet onboard. We're late seating also---I feel the same as you about not wanting to feel rushed.

I just talked to a DCL supervisor I made friends with during our 02 Eastern cancellation and she said "you will be sailing to GC 11/20". So looks like you will be swimming with the stingrays.

WOO HOO!! Got our docs today. They're over at my parents house (since they so kindly paid for the trip). I'm on my way to their house now so that I can see them for myself. This will be my first cruise. Me and the kids are SO excited.

I don't want to get me hopes up about GC. I'll be happy either way but was really looking forward to swimming with the stingrays.

I just got my docs and I was upgraded Yipeee!!!!! Bummed about Grand Cayman my reason for booking the western cruise.
Hey Sjcubedofct , I too need to book my reservation for my REAS, so your not alone. My DS10 and DS9 want to go to the Dolphin discovery any feedback would be great

We still have not gotten our Docs!! Everyday we watch for the deliveryman but to no avail. So what is the consensus, some people claim to hear we are going to GC, some not.??? Is anyone else curious if we will have any Disney celebs on our cruise like they often do?

Hi Lisa:

We're along the shore near New Haven.

We are flying down on Friday 11/5 early in the morning. We're going to do some shopping and check out the pool where we're staying. I agree with you...flying is much better than driving.

11/5 is getting closer and closer!!!!
