11/04/06 Anyone Out There Yet?

love2travel...I'd say the tour was "ok". The tour guide was great because he knew so much about the island. We first stopped at the Governor's Mansion (I think that's what it was called). We were able to walk around the beach...that was it. WE were there probably around 15 minutes. We definitely should have worn sandles but I believe they suggested sneakers because we were going to be doing some walking. Staring at the beautiful water was too tempting to us. So of course we took off our shoes and went in. Then when we had to leave our feet were full of sand...not condusive to putting socks and shoes back on!

Next was a little place called "Hell". THe guide dropped us off in front of a gift shop situated next to a post office. We looked around the gift shop and left without a purchase. While we were sitting back on the van I decided to go look around. Lo and behold I found my way to why the place was called this. Behind the gift shop through a little entry way (why the tour guide did not bring us to) was an area of ashes. The tour guide NEVER brought us there nor did he explain anything to us.

Next stop...the turtle farm. This was fun. There were huge tanks of all different sized turtles. You were able to pick up the smaller ones and have everyone laugh as they started to flap around and freak you out. Down side to this is that you were only here for a short time.

Finally was the sting rays. The guide dropped us off at a boat and they took you out to a glass bottom boat. WE transported ourselves into the boat and watched the guide as he lured the sting rays to the boat. That whole part was probably an hour or so. The kids enjoyed it.

All in all it was a good tour...I felt some places we went to we were either rushed for time or we were there too long. It was a good tour to get a taste of the island and what they're known for. WE had never been there so we wanted to see what the island was like. We're "beach people" so I might like to do the seven mile beach..it looked beautiful!!

Suzy do you remember how far Seven Mile Beach was from the ship? We've done beached on our own in St. Thomas and would like to at Grand Cayman as well. After seeing the island and the people there would you feel comfortable taking a taxi on your own?

My DD was justs 10 last year and will turn 11 two weeks before the cruise. She spent a lot of time in the clubs so they might have met. I'll send you a PM with her info if they want to communicate.

Sweetspot...If I remember correctly it was a very short taxi ride from where we get off the ship. I would feel very comfortable going by taxi now that Im more familiar with the island. I think the key is just being confident in how you present yourself to the cab driver.

Ok cruisin buddies..I do believe we are at the 100 day mark!!! :cool1: This was on the 3rd page!! I hope everyone is excited!!

I am really excited!!!! :cool1: Started making lists and checking out my luggage situation and can't wait to meet all these nice people I've been chating with.

100 days to cruise and for me 32 days until WDW. The summer sure is passing by quickly.

Can we change the name of this thread? Now that we're 100 days out the title seems outdated (yes, I admit I'm anal and it's been bothering me, I know...get a life!!).

Hey Linda, I can't believe only 100 days out, we are getting really excited!
My DD is really enjoying talking with your DD. She can't wait to meet her.

Ok, I'm asking this question for my DH. Any other men on our cruise who likes to sit back and relax with a cocktail and/or beer or both :rotfl2: and also likes a cigar every now and then. We also love the Pittsburgh Steelers, any Steelers fan out there????

So is my DD. You should have heard her the other day when she read the email about softball and Girl Scouts..."Mom, she's just like me!!!" :yay:

We're Giant fans over here...and nothing would stop my DH from watching football on Sunday.

My step-dad who will be on the cruise with us will also be glued to the t.v. for every football game (and any other sporting event) that is broadcast on the ship. I'm sure he wouldn't be adverse to a cigar (or two) and tossing back a cold one.

DH and I are huge football fans too. I'm Giants and he's Cowboys (yes, I married him anyway!!). Hopefully we'll be able to catch games on board...another reason not to check out Key West. We have a fantasy football league with our families so we'll need to purchase the internet package so we can track our teams and make changes before the games start.

Teresa, kicking back with a cocktail watching football sounds good to us. But unfortunately neither of us can tolerate smoke very well so no cigars here. But my DH can talk football all day and all night so maybe he won't mind.

T~ Does this mean our relationship is officially over?!? :rotfl: Maybe it'll help if I told you I rooted for the Steelers during the Superbowl (Even borrowed my Steeler fan neighbor's sweatshirt!)

Any Rutgers fans out there. My DH is going to miss going to the football game and will have to settle watching it on Thursday the 9th on board. Poor thing!

Talking football and cocktails, hum let's see.....YES WE CAN DO THAT, if you don't mind that we wear our Steelers Jerseys. My DH only smokes cigars on occasion and if nobody else was interested he wouldn't smoke them, so it's no problem. He would much rather watch/talk football and have cocktails!!!
